I was reading the sponshorship of a spouse outside of canada and they said that if your sponsored spouse or the sponsor was previously in common-law relationship they must submit a declaration of severance in common-law relationship. I did not submit this when I send my application to CIC-mississauga. I only submitted an income tax return T-4 that shows I was not living anymore with my ex girlfriend. That was my only proof that I was living alone since 2007.Because right now my wife received a letter asking for a passport and NSO certificate of no marriage from the manila visa office.Do you guys think I still need to provide this even if the letter did not ask for it.Please help because I don't know where to get this declaration of severance in common-law relationship letter.I am here in canada and my wife is in the philippines.

I am in the same situation as you are. I asked a Consultant the same question and was told that unless I had sponsored my previous Common Law partner before It would not be an issue.

I provided a Severance of Common Law document and signed it myself and submitted it. You can find one online. It is simply an affidavid that you swear that your previous relationship is over and the date it ended.

If you are now married I do not think it will be an issue for you. If they don't ask for anything then you have nothing to worry about.

I am also in the waiting cue. We have sent passport and Cenomar as of Dec 11 and the waiting begins again.

Good luck and don't worry too much, I am sure you will be fine. All the best in 2010.

Regards,

Raymond.

Even if the letter that my wife received in manila did not asked for it ,I still went and got this morning just in case they ask later.Let me know when you guys get your passport back together with the visa . Goodluck to both of us!

You did the right thing. I believe you have to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. We tried to include every possible thing we could think of, even though it wasn't asked for. Wish you all the best and hope you are together in Canada soon.

Raymond.
