I was wondering what sort of proofs can someone who doesn't work or study in Canada provide for the citizenship application?

The usuals would be:

- Driver's License
- Health Card
- Home rent agreements + receipts
- Bank or Credit Card statements
- Utility Bills (Cable TV, Internet, Phone)

And a bunch of good folders you could put together would comprise:

- Public Library card + book receipts
- Public Transit receipts
- Gym / Museum / Club memberships
- Vehicle lease/purchase receipt + Insurance policies
- Car Service records w/ gas receipts
- Grocery shopping Rewards Card w/ online statement
- Dental / medical receipts not covered under Provincial Health Insurance
- Parking / speed tickets

None of the above serves definite proof of continued physical presence, but I think a well organized folder depicting a trail provides a pretty good picture about whether you've been living abroad or not.
