Yes, legal, you must declare it at the port of entry.

Dear Seniors
Need your advice on Proof of Funds.

I have to show over 20,000 CAD as transferable fund at the time of landing
I am planning to take 5000 cash and $ 15000 Bank Certificate from Kuwait Bank(stating that xx amount of CAD are available in my personal account). Please note that it can be transferred online as this bank has international fund transfer facility.

My questions are
-Will this is acceptable at proof of funds. I know its risky but i have no choice
-When Officer asks how much fund i carry, what should be the answer? 5000 or 20000

Thanks in advance.

Regards

hello Qorax....

i have read the earlier posts in this thread. but could not find answer to my doubts... please find the same

I have shown proof of funds along with the full document submission. I have received the visa this month and traveling next month. Can I withdraw from that proof of funds (fixed -deposit) and convert it to drafts, cash and TC (CAD 17000 = family of 3) and show this at the Port of entry to an immigration officer?

I need your advise. We are family of 4, received resident visa and COPR. We are planning to cross Canadian border at Sarnia on April 14th, 2011. I am under arranged employment with an employer based in Calgary.
As I want to complete landing formalities at Sarnia (POE), which is different from the place where my employer is located, is it necessary for me to carry bank draft for Candian $ 20654.00??? to show proof of funds. I understand that there is no need for POF if one is under aranged employment. I will apprecaite a reply from you
Regards

thanks for such a nice piece of information

Hi,

We are a family of two. so I believe 15,000 CAD would do. Pls confirm.

The question is,

- can I show my Bank Of America account statement loaded with 12,000 USD and rest 3,000 CAD in Cash as Proof of Fund while landing?
- We are planning to land there only a month before our visa expires. Is it okay?
- Secondly, we are planning one of us would come back to India from the airport itself after finishing the procedure of applying PR and SIN card at the POE. Do you see any problem in that? Pls suggest.

thanks in advance.

Many Thanks Qorax for such a wonderful post ..

Dear Qorax,

I need an immediate help from you, I had been to my bank in India (Axis Bank, Pune) enquiring about traveller's cheque, They suggested that I carry a traveller's card instead in CAD. They also said that they can issue a statement also stating that the card has 17000CAD (for family of 3).

Now my question is can I carry the same for proof of fund? or whether I remain stick to Travellers cheque and DD! Your suggestion is really awaited and I shall take up a decision after I hear from you.

Thanks ,
Sandy

I think its like a credit card only....so in my opinion you should be better off carrying POF as TCs or draft.....

I just Googled "Traveller's Card" and it looks like it is a prepaid card that is similar to traveller's cheques. Have a look and see what you think.

Given that settlement funds have to belong to you and cannot be borrowed, and a credit card is by its very definition borrowing, this has to be a "no". The Canadian government wants to be satisifed you have enough of your own funds to establish yourself - it has little interest in your credit limit and how much debt you can get yourself into! :)

Which POF did you provide when you sent your original application?

Wayne.
