the amount for 1 person is $11,824 - you could carry the amount either cash or draft or a mix of both ...basically the choice is yours.

I don't think your application will be rejected on this basis of this, especially if the letter says this amount is available to you whenever you need it.

However, the second time you are asked for updated POF (before giving visa) it will have to be in the form of bank statement and that amount should be in your account.

This is my opinion only, based on similar cases I have read about (giving property evaluation, etc. as POF at time of application) and have not encountered specifically someone using provident fund as POF.

A friend of mine and me are having a debate, its about the CAD$14,000 as POF he will be bringing in to Canada.

1) My stand is to bring it in through Bank draft and cash 50/50 of the POF required

2) His stand is to bring it in ALL IN COLD CANADIAN CASH (money). And he is determined to do so.

I told him that there might be a chance that he might be questioned where the CAD$ came from and if he fails to prove he got it from a legit source he might have problems. Of course I told him to declare it through the declaration form.

Is this possible that he might be questioned in the CBSA of the CAD$14,000.00 he will be bringing in?

Thanks in advance for your answers in this matter. ;) :D

Why would he fail to prove it is legit? Is he from a dodgy country? I don't see any issue either way as long as he has the money and declares it.

He can carry as much cash as his exit country will let him carry out as currency and he feels comfortable carrying it and declares it on arrival.

Unless he is printing those bank notes at home, he will have a receipt from an exchange house / bank to show the transaction.

It is safer to carry a Draft - if lost, it can be replaced, cash cannot be.

No people carry a lot more cash then this and have never been asked questions about the source of the funds.

The problem will occur when he brings in that cash and does not have form E677 filled and stamped by CBSA, then he will then have a hard time depositing that large amount in a new bank account, as they will want proof he brought the amount in to the country legally.

Hello Mr Hope,
I opened an account with Scotia in India and transferred money from my domestic account using 'Foreign Money transfer'. The branch would help you do this, if this option is not available online. You can make a one time wire transfer to Scotia before activating the account ( you can activate it only after you land here)

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the info anyway could you please advice me on this one too.

I have just received my BANK account no from scotiabank, calgary. with couple of brochures.
thing is I called up the LOCAL scotia bank branch in Hyderabad, INDIA and inquired with them, on how many days it would take to deposit the funds and if I have to come to the branch for collecting the receipt and letter, then the BANK staff said they won't be providing me any letter or receipt and I don't have to come to the branch since its been opened directly. I am really confused at this point.

even though my SBI bank will do the transfer to my scotia bank acc, will the receipt and letter from SBI will be sufficient enough for POF ?

please give me some advice.
