It does not say anywhere that you are not supposed to carry more than 10k. I can carry 100k if I want to..

4 things:

First you are supposed declare all instruments totaling over $10,000 this means cash+DD
Second there is no restriction on carrying more then $10,000 in cash
Third you handover your declaration card to the immigration guy who completes your landing and he can clearly see that you are carrying more then $10,000 which is comfort enough to let him know you probably have the whole amount.
Fourth there are people who were asked to show the complete physical instruments you are bringing in at customs as well.

The CBSA officalls at the US border are more anal about the POF and they check this in detail, the rest will take your word that all is in order, else the customs guy can still stop you as they are all CBSA officers.

The declaration card is also read by the immigration officer, perhaps you did not notice.

As far as show POF is considered honestly I have never heard them actually count the money or read the amount on the DD at the airport, they just ask you to take it out and show it in your own hand that you are carrying it. So the fact that you have already marked that you are carrying more the $10,000 is comfort enough.

Now contrary to what you are saying the customs officer (though they are both CBSA) has been know to ask to see the actual POF (yes he actually uses the words: can I please see your proof of funds) in detail and then fills out form E677. The scenario at US-Canada border is different and there the POF is checked in detail most of the time, as US bank statements can be shown as POF.

There was a forum member a while back who got the whole POF amount in cash and for some reason did not get form E677 filled. The banks in Canada refused to deposit the large amount as they had no proof they brought it with them from thier home country.

Are you using it to apply for immigration or you have already gotten visa and are planning to land?

If you are planning on landing, you cannot use a bank statement, you need to bring the money to Canada.

you can open a scotiabank account from your country of residence ( if you have a branch ), then you can transfer the funds to that account and they'll issue a statement and it is accepted as POF while landing.

How is that different from bringing money to Canada (i.e. transfer through bank or take in your hand)?

sk540 does not want to take out his money from provident fund to send to Canada.
