Hello everybody,

I would like some comments on this :) I'm using bullets to organize the info better:

Info:
  • I'm pregnant, which is great news for us. I'm due early November.
  • My husband, Canadian by birth, is sponsoring me as his wife. We're on Stage 2, having gotten an AOR email stating that the process in my VO takes between 10 and 12 months to complete, which means between August - October this year. The statistics show that many get their PR starting from 7 months, which was actually what another Chilean got in their AOR (theirs said the process takes between 7 and 10 months, as opposed to mine that said 10 to 12).
  • What I understand is that if when they're ready to issue the PR, if the medicals are the only thing needed to grant it and it's been within 15 months since their original date, the officer can ask for a year-long extension and grant the PR.
  • My medicals expire mid-May; 15 months would be in August.

My biggest worry is that even though there is a chance I get my PR by August, I might get it later than that. Then they might request new medicals, which include x-rays. I wouldn't be able to have them done, due to my pregnancy.

Questions:
  • Would this delay my process? Would I have to wait until after the baby is born to take the x-rays and then have my PR granted?
  • Is there an alternative to this, like doing an MRI instead?
  • Is there some kind of paperwork/request that can help in this situation? I doubt it, but I thought I would ask anyway :)

I hope you guys have some insight that will help us prepare for the (very different) possible outcomes to this. We really want the baby to be born in Canada!

If you have to have another medical, they will expect the xrays and so you would have to wait until after the baby is born. However, since it would be your second medical, if they request them I would try explaining that you're pregnant and ask if the xrays could be skipped or something else substituted (they use them to test for TB). No idea if they would do this, though, but I would ask.
However, they often extend the medical validity, so you might not have to have a second one anyway.

Congrats on the baby!! You and your hubby must be super excited!

Regarding your questions
1) have you informed CIC about your pregnancy and what stage it is at?
If not, do so ASAP as usually they take that into account while processing your application- possibly far track it too! In your correspondance do not forget to state the expected delivery date etc.
2) the VO can extended the validity of your medicals if he/she deem fit. Under yor circumstances it would be but obvious that you would not be able to go for an x-ray when pregnant so I'm sure the VO will take that into consideration.
3) the VO gives an expected completion time for yor papers depending on the back log in the VO at that time... Don't worry too much about that though

Good luck :)

Kwc221 I am in the same predicament, they want my wife to do a medical exam and she is 5 months pregnant. We did a medical February 2012 and they want us to do another one. I emailed them to try to get the last one extended so we can bypass that part and get her to do one in canada. I will let you know what they say to me. My VO Is NAIROBI, hopefully this means the interview is waived.

Having a child with your partner usually proves that your relationship is valid.. So (hopefully) they should not need an interview..

Thanks everyone!

Samstar, I'll be happy to hear how you do. There's a chance different VOs will behave differentely, but maybe there is some kind of guideline...

I haven't let the embassy know. How should I do that? Through a case specific enquiry...?

Does this depend on the 15 months limit, or not really?

Oh you must ASAP! You could start with a case specific enquiry... If it were me I would also send them a mail with a cover letter stating the same along with some evidence of the pregnancy... That might be safer incase the enquiry is accidentally disregarded...

I think it is up to the visa officer.

We did our medical February 23 2012 and now it's march 14 2013. The only thing that's missing is the medical. Can they still extend it or does it have to be requested before the expiry date? It's bend expired 3 weeks

They can request it any time until they give you your PR

We are in a similar situation with medicals expiring in February 2012. I believe the rule is that the Visa Officer can ask to get them extended as long as they do so within 15 months of the original medical (i.e. within 3 months after the 1 yr. expiry date). They make the requests, so we do nothing and know nothing, unless they ask us to re-do. I sent a case-specific e-mail enquiry before ours expired to ask what would happen - but received no response. Hoping no news is good news. For you too.

If the medicals do not get extended then I guess they will ask you to re-do them and that doesn't seem to have a time frame.

There have been other more in-depth discussions on this topic also.

It would be nice if some people who had automatic medical extensions applied to their file could send a note on this thread, to let others know.

does the ecas update show that the medical extension has been applied? i think its only by looking at their visa expiry date and their medical expiry date do some people realize that a medical extension was given, so its usually after the fact. :(

Thanks!

I'll wait until I'm 12 weeks to let the VO know. Then the chances of the baby going to term are a lot higher :) A month to go!

We did. And we didn't know until we got the COPR so they do not tell you if you had it extended. The only way you know it has been, is if the year deadline passes and you didn't get a letter.
