Pregnancy and OHIP??

Hi guys. Completely lost/confused on this and hoping to get some help. My wife has applied for PR in Canada OUTLAND app. I have been approved as a sponsor and her app is currently in process at Seoul visa office. We moved to Ontario while waiting and I'm wondering if she's able to apply for OHIP?

I have paid out of my pocket so far under the impression that she was ineligible however I've been hearing that that is not the case. Will be heading to a service Ontario office this week but thought I'd check to see if I could get any info from here beforehand. Thank you!

No, she is not eligible for OHIP until she is a PR, has landed and been here 3 months. If you had applied In-land and received and AIP (In-land 1st stage approval) she would have been, probably where the confusion is coming from.

So then, lets say she has been here for 3 months. If she is approved for PR next week will she be eligible for OHIP immediately or will she have to wait an additional 3 months?

It's three months from the time she becomes a PR. So she will have to wait an additional three months.

To be more precise its 3 months from the date of landing in Canada physically...:)

The day she lands... is the day she becomes a PR :p

Thats what I said in my post..The day he/she lands physically in Canada they become PR.After that they have to wait 3 months for Health Card to use...

The immigration version of "landed" refers to the process of officially becoming a PR (by either crossing a border or attending a landing interview) once someone has been approved for PR.

So from an immigration perspective, your wife has not landed in Canada yet. This can't happen until after she has been approved for PR.

The three month obligation for OHIP for your wife will start after she "lands" (i.e. the immigration version of landing).

apologies for bringing this up again but I figure I have to at least try. My wife just officially got her COPR in the mail. She is due to have our baby Dec 10th. I know we are supposed to wait 3 months from now but is their ANYONE out there who has successfully received OHIP before the 3 month waiting period OR has anyone received any sort of refund from OHIP after the fact??? Any useful information is well received!

my boyfriend got his OHIP after just under 3 months as he is here on a work permit. he just had to submit a letter from his employer. i dont think you are eligible if you are only here as a visitor.

she will be eligible for OHIP 3 months from the day she lands... no they will not reimburse you for the birth, on the bright side the baby will be covered as soon as it is born...

Please house, kindly clarify this to me. If I got my Permanent Residence Visa say today and my wife is due for delivery next month are you saying I will have to pay for all her medicals? Will that delay issuance of visa or entry to Canada by immigration?

Your ideas will be highly appreciated.

Depends where you end up in Canada (which province). Each province sets its own rules.

If in Ontario, then you would have to pay for all of her medical costs out of your own pocket.
