So, I have finally gotten my COPR (Application submitted on June 22nd 2022 / Nova Scotia VO - Ottawa VO - Mexico VO ) , and I am wondering when the days start to count within the five years period.

Do the days start to count when I land in canada ? Also, as a first PR, do I need to comply with the 700 and something days in Canada to keep it ?

Another question, of main importance, if anyone knows how to answer : If I do have to stay in the country for 730 days within the 5 years, when I renovate, can I stay for only one year to apply for citizenship (cumulative in ten years), or is it like 3 years in a row within the five years period ?

That is fundamental because in that case I could be staying for two years, then renovate it, then I have 5 years to stay for the completion of the three years mandatory for citizenship. Well, that is a big doubt I have.

Cumulative period of stay, or sequential.

Also, bonus question : When applying for citizenship after the completion of the three years residency, do you have to stay during processing of the citizenship application?

Eligibility
  • be a permanent resident.
  • have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years.
  • have filed your taxes, if you need to.
  • prove your language skills.
  • pass a citizenship test.
  • take the oath of citizenship.

1) The PR card renew counts five years from the date you signed your application.
2) You need to live physically in Canada for 3 years out of the 5 years before you can apply for citizen.
3) When you renovate your Mexico home, can't you hire someone to oversee the project?
4) For the bonus question, you can be outside Canada.

Some of your questions aren't completely clear.

- Maintaining your PR status requires you to live in Canada for 730 days out of every five rolling years. This count starts as of the day you become a PR. The days do not need to be continuous.
- For citizenship, you need 3 years of physical residency in Canada out of the last 5 years. The days do not need to be continuous. Two of these years must be post-PR. One year can be pre-PR with 1/2 day credit for each pre-PR day in Canada.
- You do not need to stay in Canada after applying for citizenship however you do have to return to Canada for the oath and being outside of Canada can create delays to your citizenship application. You must also continue to meet the residency obligation for PR until you become a citizen. I don't understand your example that involves the 10 years. There is no 10 years. You have to meet the citizenship residency requirement within a five year period.

The only unclear factor is if the days start to count when I land or when I receive the COPR in the portal. I believe it’s when I formally land
