PR Card Delivery during Canada Post Strike

Hi Everyone,

I received a notification yesterday from IRCC stating that my PR card has been mailed to me. But right now Canada Post is on strike, so I assume nothing is delivered!

I was wondering if there is an exception for delivering important documents such as PR cards? And since IRCC is aware of the strike, could it be that they are using a different courier to mail documents? Or could it be, the worst case, that they just do not care and send with Canada Post and all I can do is wait (for long)?

Thank you very much.

I called them and asked whether they would use a different courier to send the card. The agent said right now we "hold them" and don't deliver even if on the website it says mailed! I then said I could send you a prepaid envelope with DHL/UPS and you use it to send my card back, or I could even travel to pick it up. He said all not possible.

He said only if there is an urgency, then you communicate with them (explanation + proof), then the agent will just add a note on your file. Then, it will be at the discretion of the person processing your case to decide whether it is an urgency. If deemed so, then they will find a way to send the card!

Instead of sending those important documents via another deliverer, they hold them and people suffer!!

Rigid processes and rigid systems - even if they want to, their SOPs won't let them help you out. It is an unfortunate situation, but they aren't really holding your important documents for fun. It is a Canada-wide issue and a known one.

Hi. My gc key status days final decision reached on 14 nov, n status updated on 16 nov that pr card has been mailed n to expect it in 6 weeks. Does this mean it's with Canada Post Or on hold with ircc given that strike started on 15? Does this mean they mailed it on 14 or 15 n then they update status on 16 that it's mailed? Please help. Quite a panic.

No-one except IRCC could possibly know the answer. We do know (Or I think we do, anyway) that they tend to say 'mailed' when all they've actually done is approve it to be sent to their own mailroom. After that - anyone's guess.

No, no exception. It's the same for people waiting for their passports
this is not true. If the passport has not been mailed out(and they id not after November, 8th), you can arrange to pick it up at Service Canada location.
Same for Pr cards which have not been mailed before the strike. For Refugee travel documents, however, so far they have been refusing to make any arrangements whatsoever. We are contacting MP about it.

There are much easier ways for them to resolve it, but IRCC simply won't care. Please contact your MPs and ask them to urge some action in this regard. They could easily arrange bulk deliveries to nearby service centres and let people take their documents from there. But they couldn't bother.

People who answer the calls don't make any decisions, they simply follow the instructions. They can't ant won't do anything to change policies. There needs to be some other type of action that would actually reach those who are in charge of making arrangements.

Pay for other courier prepaid envelope, send that through webform and they will deliver PR card through other courier services.
