Hey Triniluv2117,

Guide 3900 is a pretty helpful list of what you need for your application - the documents that you need depend on your situation, so its hard to list them for you. :) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp

This page on the CIC website will help you understand the whole process http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp and you can always ask specific questions here!

Hi everyone. Reading your landing story was heart warming. I am new to this forum. I am in the process of getting my application together to sponsor my husband. We got married in 2009 bit I have been living with him in trinidad for the past 6 years. We decided we wanted to live in canada and I moved here with our two kids last month. I have been reading up on the process and everyone I meet keeps telling me don't worry but I worry by nature. It's the first time we have been apart and we already miss each other so much. My question is what documents do you have to submit with our application. Maybe someone cam direct me to a list...it would be appreciated :)

Wanted to post an update for those who may be interested... we finally got through!

You may remember that PoS asked for my husband's passport on July 31, but our status online never changed to Decision Made. Then on August 10, 6 days after receiving the passport, they emailed us asking for a criminal record check for Grenada, where my husband has spent time but never lived. Knowing its better to comply than argue with a faceless government body, we sent the record check in on August 24.

While we were waiting for the record check I put in a request at my MP's office to find out the status of our application and they confirmed that we had been close to a decision being made (obviously an approval since they had asked for my husband's passport) but then asked for the record check.

On September 1 our status changed to Decision Made and on September 3 DHL delivered the passport back with a visa in it. They even sent back all of the pictures we had sent in with our application package, which was a nice bonus.

I thought I'd point out for everyone that checks their application status obsessively that once our status changed to Decision Made they added in a few retroactive posts about where our file was in the process. Shows that even when they do use it they use it sparingly - until they close out the file in this case. I think that can give a little hope to anyone who thinks that nothing is happening because their status doesn't show it - that might not be true!

So... we applied February 18 and were approved September 3. Almost 7 months total. A full year if you count how long it took to put together the application package!

We're rushing out - hopefully this weekend! I'll be sure to post and let everyone know what they ask my husband at the border.

Cheers!

Hello Dolphinwheels - welcome.
1. This is the question we all want to know. I have been waiting since I got SA - the first week of June and have heard nothing from POS - others have heard back and are moving through the process. It all depends on your paperwork, any questions the Visa Officer might have and so on....
2. you don't need to attend the interview as they have questions for your common law - I always think it looks better to go together if you can - shows unity and support!

Good luck

Hi everyone!
I'm new here and so far a few of the posts have helped me a lot. However there are a few things I need assistance or clarifications, hope anyone can help

I'm a Canadian citizen and I'm sponsoring my common law boyfriend from Antigua. I have already been approved as a sponsor in June 21 2015, now we are just waiting on his papers which was sent June 24 2015 which was sent to Port of Spain - Trinidad.
Question
1. Does anyone know how long it will take or roughly? If your papers went to the same place, how long it took?
2. I'm disabled (use a wheelchair), so if my boyfriend was called in for an interview, would I have to attend?

Thanks for your attention

EXCELLENT NEWS! Congratulations EmmaLee now we can look forward to your landing story.

I'm glad to hear the criminal check didn't hold you back. I remember how frustrated you were. Congratulations again. Well wishes to you and your family.

Hello All !

Well here is my landing story !

My hubby arrived about 3:10 PM on August 29th .
I had to hurry to the airport as time was cutting short from getting all pretty for him lol.

I got lost trying to find parking and ended up settling for the discount parking lot but I didn't care because I had to make it there to see my babes.

I walked and followed the signs for Terminal 3 where I stopped and realized everyone was waiting for the train.
I really didn't realize how far I parked !

After a huge journey of walking I made it and I waited for my hubby; about 10 mins to 4PM he arrived.
I held up my "Welcome to Canada Baby" sign and he didn't see it among the big crowd so I began to walk towards him and he saw me and started to smile.

We hugged and kissed and It was absolutely one of the best feelings ever !
After 3 and a half years of long distance this is the greatest sense of relief and up to now everything still feels so unreal.

I'm actually glad I got lost because he got to experience going on the train for the first time lol.

I wish everyone good luck and lots of faith during their process <3

Ps. At Immigration he was simply asked where he is staying, my name, how we met , how much money he had on him & if he was claiming anything .

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I do have a question. For the financial information it says I have to provide 12 months from before application filed. I have only been back in canada for 2 months and am currently looking for a part time job as I have enrolled our kids in school. My husband sends me money also my parents are supporting us till he gets here. How should I relay this on our application and would it be a problem?

The financial part is to show that you are able to support the person you are sponsoring.
I would probably get legal advice if I were you.

I would not think the Canadian immigration wants to see the person being sponsored is giving you money. Normally the evidence that is submitted would be you supporting him...

I am sorry I can't really help you with that question....

I see lots of people going through the POS VO but no one wants to comes here to discuss

So out of frustration I decided to send an email to the VO at POS
I asked if I was possible to get an AOR 2

Here is the automated email back to me....
