Kadi, what's your theory for Kingston? A new VAC was opened in MoBay and we still aren't hearing much from KG on spousal PR's.

Honestly my theory is that KGN; doesn't give a hoot! I think even with the 2 new VACs (Kingston and Montego Bay) they are too far backlogged to even give updates to us.

The recent article I read was the JHTA (Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Assn) even asking the government to intervene as they complained about loss revenue and that KGN doesnt even respond to queries on applications. The government was not even able to get an answer.

So I am not expecting too much from them but am keeping my faith that we will continue to see changes.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! (I'll scream for you!!) AWESOME NEWS!!!! Told you that "in process" was a good sign!!! I'm soooo happy for you guys!!!!! Welcome to the "I survived POS club"! Now start planning that reunion and whatever you do...make it a memorable one!! I've found that whenever minor disagreements come up (doesn't happen often, but when it does...) I just think back on the moment I saw my husband cross under the "welcome to Canada sign", the feelings I had on the way to the airport to pick him up, decorating the hotel room for his arrival and our "first night" together and it just makes everything melt away. So make that reunion an uber special one for you guys, the memories of it will last forever

.....thanks for the details MsRuby, it helps us to help you. So can we presume you are a citizen of one of the countries whose applications are processed via the Port of Spain office? If so, is your passport up-to-date? Does your country of citizenship use a national identity card? If so, that will need to be up-to-date as well. You will also need a copy of your birth certificate and marriage license.

I am not too sure about undocumented status in the US but I do know that security checks have to be performed in countries where the applicant has lived for more than 6 months consecutively.

Hi CdnandTrini , I'm from Guyana. I came to the US when I was a minor. I have a valid Guyana passport which I'm allowed to apply for from the Guyana consulate in NY. I don't know about the National ID card because I left under 18. I have a copy of my birth certificate, thank you.

No probs Sounds fairly straightforward. Being undocumented won't have any impact on the application, just be sure to be honest about everything with them. You probably already know, but just in case, make sure you submit both the NY state police check AND your FBI clearance, as it will delay your file if either is missing. The FBI clearance can take anywhere from 8-12 weeks to receive, so be sure to request it early. Try to do your meds as close to your submission date as possible, so that they will hopefully remain valid until your application is approved (we had to wait an extra 8 weeks to renew our meds as we did them quite early on and they ended up expiring).

That way it is less costly but you can ask any worrisome questions that may be on your mind without committing to the "full monty" so to speak.

It also depends on your and hubby's comfort level with paperwork and if you get a good lawyer that is responsive and the additional cost for using a lawyer. It depends on the individual's really. You can also prepare all of the documents and ask a lawyer to do a double check for you prior to sending the application which is not as costly. The most important thing is to have peace of mind at the outset so you do not stress even more during the process. Because it is a roller coaster and not always a fun ride ! Blessings.

Thanks for your quick reply! I'm feeling overwhelmed already lol. We contacted a few lawyers in the past. We have one in mind but after reading this forum and seeing how to go about everything we feel 50/50 about getting a lawyer. Maybe we'll just have the lawyer review everything like you mention.
