Here is our situation. My husband cane to Canada on a work permit in 2008. He overstayed the Visa and left in September 2012. We have a baby born January 2012. We married in September 2012.

I sent all the paperwork to CIC for out of country sponsorship on December 12 and it was received December 13, according to Canada Post tracking. I know I am in for a long haul but hoping POS is quick!!!

My question (I'm feeling panicky) is should I receive confirmation the paperwork was received or what is the first thing I will hear from them??? Will it only be once they "open" the application and start processing that I will know?

Welcome Behopeful!! You will not hear from them until they get to your application. They "may" send you an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) saying they have received your application (but it won't be until they are just opening it and working on it). Most/some people don't get an AOR at all and just receive their approval as the first communication from them. So I wouldn't expect to hear from them until you get your approval (or AOR or, God forbid, a request for anything that might be missing like medicals, police clearances, etc)

I applied in December as well and got sponsorship approval 13 days later. That was the first correspondence I heard from them. It is normal to worry as I am already going bonkers over everything. Fromadistance... I am hoping the rest if your application is as speedy as the initial approval! All the best! It's so hard not to get worried about all these things and compare! I am lucky I am busy with my daughter so I can vanish some of these thoughts for the time being but my mind comes back to it often, especially when I could use the extra hands and support from my husband/ her father. Soon all this will be memories though. We have to start somewhere.

I am assuming you can't see the process of your application online either until they have sent you a client ID number, correct assumption?!!

No unfortunately you cant see the status yet until you receive a client number or file number.

They DO need to start working! ugh. I honestly thought I would hear something from them (in process) during my holidays based on the timeline(s) directly in front of me, but not so.

Yes! I did go to Antigua and I'm still here on vacation with my man til Sunday morning. It's been nice so far but only a couple of days left and I HHHHAAATTTEEE that feeling of knowing it is all coming to an end very soon. And we have been able to visit quite often, but this is the last one for at least 6 months and it's going to KILL me to leave

I know the feeling it is always nice to visiit but when the time draws near to return home, its sad. Hopefully that will all end soon.
Holidays went by okay. Got sponsor approval in 13 days so that was satisfying for me.
