You should just list your residential address as Dominica and your mailing address as CA. After you are approved and your file is x-fer to POS, you will receive your AOR containing your file #. You can then notify them that your residential address is now CA as you have moved back to CA. Huge plus for your application.

Usually you email the visa office via this link
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/port-of-spain.asp

I don't think this will slow down your application.

Hey Miss Dca

You will get your ID no. when the case processing centre in Mississauga sends you a notification of receipt of your file. Problem is though...they do not always send it and when they do, the timing is dicey. We got ours about 1.5 months after submission. I've erased the memory of all those forms from my mind, in the interest of preserving my sanity :) so I don't remember if there is a mailing address space separate from physical address. If there is, then you could fill in your Canada address as your mailing address. Also, include in your cover letter the date you will be returning to Canada and what your new address will be, so they will have this on file from the start. According to the form, if you include an email address, they're supposed to use that for all communication, but they still sent us snail mall anyways, so who knows. However, once you do get that ID no, you will be able to update your address directly in ecas.

@ Admiral and Zouk Princess

Thanks!!! I didn't realize it was ok to put a Canadian address as the mailing address while I was still living in Dominica... but that makes it a lot easier and I don't have to send them the update. I will just attach a letter stating that my residential address will ALSO change to my Canadian address after a certain date. You guys are awesome :)

LOL Zouk @ "in the interest of preserving my sanity".... I TOTALLY get it.. lol I have about a bazillion papers and forms sitting on my kitchen table ???

Random question -

By reading through these forums, I have come across a lot of people saying they submitted sworn affidavits of people stating their relationship is real - and even some of them got denied after that.

I don't have "sworn affidavits" but I have letters from various people (my parents, his parents, friends, landlord, etc) that we are a real couple, that they know us, etc. Is this ok? Or am I supposed to somehow get these legal statements (I have no idea how to do this from Dominica) ???

My understanding of "sworn..." is that they are signed by a commissioner of oaths or notary public, and from what I have read, it is highly advisable for common-law applications (it even appears as an example of proof in the operating procedures manual). As to the question of getting that in dca, I would like to hope we have those on the island, I would really, really hope so. Check the yellow pages or ask around, I don't know of any on my own.

Thanks Zouk. I know someone that signs passport applications and stuff, so I assume he is something of the sorts. I will have to find out. What I don't understand is, do I then have to take all the letters that family has written (from Canada) and get the notary guy to sign THEM to prove they are real... or what is the purpose of him signing those letters? OR am I supposed to get special letters written and sworn upon (ie. the ones I have now are no good and my parents would need to re-do theirs, etc)? Ugh. Things are so hard sometimes lol.

Good Morning,

It's a holiday here in Grenada. Extra day to relax...Gotta love it.

@ MissDominica Dominica should have a JP (Justice of the Peace) . Not everyone should be notarized so the ones that you do have are good. Do not discard them. No need to redo anything. What you should do is get a few people to write on both you and your partners behalf, attesting that your relationship is real. Get those signed by the JP. You can submit any proofs that attest to the genuineness of your relationship.
Common law relationships are harder to prove as they require more documentation attesting to a bonafide relationship compared to that of a married couple. You can also submit bills in both your names, letters, emails, FB msgs, pictures, joint accounts, joint memberships etc. These aren't notarized. A perfect notarized proof would be getting the landlord to write you a letter. That should be notarized by the JP besides submitting the lease on the apt. Just throwing a few examples your way. Hope i helped.

Well I received a response from POS this morning for their carelessness. I should have it in hand tmw. *fingers crossed*

Is the form in Appendix C the only form I have to bring? It's the only one I can find. I know I have to bring ID and pictures, etc.

Thanks!
