Hello all,

I had a question about who needs to have the FBI and police certificates done. I am the sponsor, a Canadian/American dual citizen living in the US with my American partner. I grew up in Canada but have been living in the US for 7+ years. We are almost finished with all the paperwork, and are now trying to get our background checks taken care of. We are getting our fingerprints done today, and I realized that I wasn't sure I was even supposed to get the police certificates and FBI checks done as the sponsor.

Does the sponsor need to get a background check/police certificate?
If so, should I get these for where I am currently a resident (Kentucky, US) and Canada?

Thanks so much!

No - the sponsor doesn't submit them. Only the applicant.

Thank you!

I'd wondered if the fact that I've lived/worked in the U.S. for so many years might mean that I'd need a check to account for my time here.

Thanks for the quick responses!
