Hey Astasi,

In worst case, you can apply for PCC here in BLS Toronto and they will issue one in 1 month to the max.
However, the difficult part is to obtain it under your previous name.

This is a matter of concern for me as well. My Father's name has been recently corrected in his passport and I am worried that they would have questions about him when I apply for his visitor's visa.

Good luck

Good morning,

My application has received the first roadblock.... :(

Today morning I received an email from CIC requesting a PCC for India under my previous name. I had submitted the PCC for India with my application under my current name.

In 2004 I did a name change actually its not even a name change, just changed the spelling of my name and followed the legal procedure for the name change (sworn affidavit and newspaper advertisements).

In my PR application I disclosed all this information and also submitted the photocopies in support of my name change. I have 60 days time to submit the requested PCC. Right now I don't know if this is even possible and the icing on the cake is that I just came back after 6 weeks of vacation from India and had this mail arrived a month earlier it would have been easy for me to find a solution :(

I will appreciate any insights/advise here.

Thanks for your time.

Hi cannonbarrel,

I already visited BLS office in Edmonton and the guys over there were not of much assistance and told me to contact CGI Vancouver which has a reputation of never responding to your emails.

Worst case scenario another trip to India which I desperately want to avoid.

It would have really helped if CIC had this information on their website or in the application guide so that the applicants don't have to wait till the last minute for such paperwork.

Are you an ON applicant?

do you think CIC call centre representatives make notes on file each time we call to ask something?

Hi Astasi,

Is this a major name correction? I just wanted to be prepared because in 2007/2008 before I had my passport, i notice a one letter mistake in my name in my birth certificate. I had it corrected but all my other documents are in my correct name. It was a very obvious mistake when the typist (old-fashioned typewriter) way back in 1983 (year that I was born) typed in the letter 'D' instead of 'S' in my middle name. In my PR application, my birth certificate have a note below about the correct spelling and that it has been changed. Do you think i would have the same problem?

Hi mj_paredes,

Its not a major name correction, just the way my first name is spelled as in from HARJEET with 2 Es to HARJIT with an I.

In your case its a spelling correction rather then a change of name. I think you should be okay.

I suspect so, because if you order the notes, it'll outline every incoming and outgoing interaction.

hi mj_paredes,

i also had a name correction in my nso BC. what CEM did was request for another NBI clearance under the original name in my BC and to submit the said docs within 30days upon receipt of their notice.

what i did was brought with me the notice from cem and ask for another nbi clearance under my uncorrected name and submit it thru dhl.

/hth God bless

Oh no! This is bad! I think it would be more complicated because i am here in Canada. So if they ask for another NBI/POLICE clearance under the uncorrected name, would they also ask that in other country that I have lived before or only home country?
As I understand, you have to provide PCC of all countries you lived more than 6 months (I think). And it depends on the time you had your name change. for EX: you changed your name in your home country before you lived in any countries then you only have to provide PCC under the uncorrected name of your home country. Better contact and ask them.

Good morning guys!
