My PR application was received by sydney NS on May 21st 2014. I applied though PNP Ontario from Canada. Haven't got a file number yet. Haven't heard anyone's application taking such a long time, my friends got in 4-6 weeks. cic page says 8-10 weeks and i m on the 10th week already. Worried. Paid online by credit card and sent receipt, charged immediately. Sent by courier canada post and tracked successful delivery. Dont know whats going on.

You can try applying for a GCMS note (https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/) which is like an online request to know about status of an application. It is a charged application (5$) which might take upto a month to get replied to.

I did send them an email. I got an automated response that they wont respond if i have applied within 8-10 weeks. This is the 10th week.

Yes, thats true. I called them too. They said the same thing. However CIC is Ottawa.
They could not comment much unless the file is received by CIC. That happens after we get file numbers and the application is put into processing in Ottawa. It is still in Sydney, NS now.
When i sent email to sydney, i was told (automated reply) about that 10 weeks waiting period.
