I applied on the same day, 26th Jan 2015 and my GCMS notes mentioned the same thing; everything else has been passed but security. Last update on security was on May 24th, 2015. The refugee thing has been started since last 2/3 months but I wonder why didn't they update our security since May!!
I think there are couple other people that applied around the same date like Melanie and Jstar1. From my conversation with CIC and lawyer friend, they both said that resources have been diverted to refugees as they are in life threatening situations which again is poor planning on CIC's part.

I recommend everyone here who have their work permits expiring in Q1 of 2016 to apply for OWP asap. If we are lucky to get PR before our WP expiry dates, we can ask for a refund on OWP.

Really good thinking maxy81,
My work permit expired on October and I applied for the OWP at the beginning of August. .
It took 4 months to receive the work permit on my mail box last week ..

So don't wait last minute and apply ASAP ✌

Hi All,

Just read in the PNP-PR Jan-Feb-March forum, Feb 6th BC PNP PR paper applicant got his PPR. There is obviously some inconsistencies with CIC. While December and January applicants are waiting for DM, they are giving Feb applicants PPR's. Sometimes you just get lucky I think.

Hi guys.
I've just heard on the news that Mr Trudeau wants to bring 25 000 more of these refugees. That's on a top of 25 000 that he already has promised.
What's do you think? Are we gonna see any updates any time soon?
This wait is so frustrating. And I feel it's so unfair to us.why wouldn't they hire more ppl who can work on refugee cases. And have ppl who will work on our cases. ??? ???

In respect of the OWP extension. Again, I do strongly recommend to do it on the border.

The really good part about applying online or on paper is that if we get our PR sooner, then we can in fact ask for a refund of our money. Plus, it gives time to burn if somebody is not too sure of their application, since it will be for 3 months on process before you get the denial (again, in the case somebody doesn't have their full application for x or y reason).

The reason I still go with the flagpoling option is because once you get to implied status you DON'T have health card anymore, therefore if you get sick, if your wife is pregnant, if you have kids, etc etc, you will have to pay to go to the doctor, and that would be pretty expensive. You're risking 3 months of non-coverage, and that is a risk I would prefer not to take.

We should be getting our PR's soon anyway, so it makes you wonder which path to take, but I still believe that flagpoling is better.

Still waiting to get my new passport back though, so I cannot do any option just yet, so I still have a few more days to decide.

I am on a closed work permit right now that expires in Feb. I have never applied for a OWP. Are you saying that if I go to the border, I can get a new Open Work Permit (with any employer)? Is that even a possibility? If it is, I would absolutely do it and pay for it.

I know people got an open work permit at the border just make sure on your nomination certificate you don't have any restriction (e.g. name of specific employer nominated you) If that's the case you can still get a closed work permit just have your employer pay the employer compliance fee and sign IMM5802E employer declaration.

I also recommend doing flagpole at the border because from that specific moment CBSA officer will tell you if they can or they can't give you a work permit but as long as you are prepared with your documents youre good!

I advise for you to do flagpole on the border where there are multiple CBSA office like Toronto. I got refused on the first border since they don't know how to process my work permit for the reason that employer declaration form is just new last February 19, 2015 so what I did is I proceed to the next border do another flagpole until I got my work permit :D

As far as I know a valid nomination certificate is required since this is one of the requirements if you are getting a work permit thru your nomination. You can ask your nominating province if they can give you a work permit support letter. This is not a nomination certificate but a letter from the province stating that you are supported to have a work permit since they nominated you. This is the letter that I showed at the border and not my certificate.

Most recent CIC news release show that Canada is committed to bring 25k refugees by end of Feb. and another 25k by end of 2016. We are probably gonna have to wait all the way till the end of our 15 month timeline. This really sucks but hey on the positive side, we are living a lot better life than those refugees who need help more than we do. I am just proud to be in Canada, a country so much more accepting than others. Out PR will come soon enough guys.

January 15 applicant,
Got my GCMS notes today.

The latest notes from 10/10 is that all documents are receved, nothing is required, but security outstanding. And on 11/05 the paper application was moved to PV2-JAN.
So I guess they will do some actions on January for many of us, who was moved to PV2-JAN.

Some people write that Due dates are 2016-05 or 2016-06, but now I see these values is not interesting for us. It is "In process" date + 1 year, when RCMP/criminal checks become expired.
Anyway I got some relief after seeing that officers are satisfied with everything and security check is the only blocker.

Hi, Its good to know that we could find the notes on "all documents received". But I would like to know where to look for it in the notes.
I am yet to order it but trying to know while this topic is being discussed.

All cases are different.
Whenever you receive your notes, read everything and especially the last pages where officers write free form texts and their opinions.
There is no reason to learn it before your actually receive your GCMS

ok. thanks Ivan. Let me get the notes and then ask additional questions, if any.
