Hi guys!

I applied for a study permit on May 7, passed the medicals on the 28th and refused June 3rd for the reason:

You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay. In reaching this
decision, I considered several factors, including:

  • Travel history
  • Employment prospects in country of residence
  • Personal assets and financial status

Travel history
  • I never traveled out of my country in my whole life. However, I was refused a tourist visa to the U.S. in 2002, because according to the VO who interviewed me, I was too young to travel.

Employment prospects in country of residence
  • I am a little confused about this because I am self-employed. I have two businesses.

Personal assets and financial status
  • I showed 55,000 CAD in my bank account, 2 cars under my name, 1 land, but no title yet since I bought it just recently and transferring the owner's name to my name takes a couple of months, and of course, the 2 businesses that I own.

My profile

  • 34 years old
  • Single
  • Graduated Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in 2002
  • Self-employed (I run an internet cafe/computer shop and a sound system rental)
  • 7.0 overall IELTS score
  • Accepted at Fanshawe College for September 2015 intake in Music Industry Arts diploma program of 2 years with total tuition of 32,000 CAD

What should I do to make my case stronger when I reapply?

Any help is highly appreciated. :)

did u mention about ur usa refusal in ur application and what are the proofs ur showed for ur business,?

Thanks for the reply kaur96. :)

Yes, I mentioned that I was refused.

I submitted business permits and business registrations that are under my name.

apply for caips notes and know the facts behind these reasons....and then apply again....

good luck!

What's the connection between computer engineering degree & music arts diploma? Don't you think that's the straight reason for refusal?

Very valid, applying for music diploma after computer engineering in 2002, this was an expected rejection

Music Industry Arts program in Fanshawe College covers Sound Engineering. I wanted to study Sound Engineering since I am a Sound Technician in my own sound system rental business.

And if it was the reason, the refusal letter should have stated "your proposed studies are not reasonable in light of one or more of: your qualification, previous studies, employment, level of establishment, other educational opportunities available in the Philippines or Canada, language abilities, or your future prospects and plans."

May I ask.... why did you choose a diploma and music study???

You already got a degree from Computer Engineering ................ This mans that you need to look for a master degree or PG diploma in order to show you are a genius student. OR You must explain why you choose a diploma and different study from previous your education background. There is no exceptional case for nowadays... Getting a study permit is harder than before.

I dont see any connection from your education background and future study.

Uhm, I think you don't get it guys.

Let me explain it further.

Yes I am a computer engineering graduate. But I didn't pursue the career path it should have taken me. Instead, I am running an internet cafe/computer shop and a sound system rental business. At the same time, I am the acting SOUND TECHNICIAN of my sound system rental business. Anyone can become a sound technician through experience, especially when you have a passion for music or through studying. Most of the sound technicians in my country earn that title through experience only. But if you complete a sound engineering program, you will become a SOUND ENGINEER, which is superior than a sound technician obviously.

I think the VO was convinced about my study plan. If it was the other way around, the VO should have stated in the refusal letter that my proposed studies are not reasonable in light of one or more of: my qualification, previous studies, employment, level of establishment, other educational opportunities available in the Philippines or Canada, language abilities, or my future prospects and plans.
