Hello!!

I sent my application for Citizenship in October but yesterday my application was returned to me!!
They did not accept my "Proof of Language Proficiency".(I sent them my college degree)

Now, I have another document that I can send for them instead(My IELTS test) .

I want to know if I have to send along a new application with a new calculator and new fee receipt??

Please please help me.

You should have a letter attached with instructions how to reply.

If they were only looking for the missing documents then you only need to resubmit together with the prescreened application.

If they were not commenting on your physical presence then there is no need to submit with new calculator days, meaning you already complied required 1095 minimum

Your receipt is still valid.

Find out in your letter how long you are required to reply back.
Some say within 90 days if in doubt call CIC.

Cheers!

Thank you for your detailed reply.
You're correct, they've put a 2 page letter on top of my returned application only stating that my "Proof of language" is not acceptable and reffered me to guidelines. that's it!! No deadline no nothing.

And on the 2nd page they gave me a choice to either resubmit my application+ related documents+fees OR basically withdraw and ask for my money back.

Therefore I don't know that if I want to resubmit with the new language evidence, do I have to give them a new application/new calculator/new fee receipt??

please comment,
Thanks

How many buffer days you had in your initial application? If you had a significant number of days above the required 1095 days, then you can make ONLY the following minimal changes and resubmit your application (this is my preferred approach):
1-) Attach your IELTS results copy
2-) On page 4 of the application, you now need to select or tickmark the box "Result of CIC-approved third-party language test" .... may need to change the page altogether
3-) Attach a cover letter (and the letter you received from CIC) to explain that your application was returned and the changes you've made

Please check your IELTS test results to ensure that they meet the following requirements:
•International English Language Testing System (IELTS), general training, not the academic version You must have achieved a score of: ◦4.0 or higher in speaking, and
◦4.5 or higher in listening. (Please note: If the test was done before November 28, 2008, we will accept a level 4 or higher); or

If you did NOT have a significant number of days above the required 1095 days, you may consider:
1-) Redo application and residence calculator (and sign both with identical new or current date)
2-)Attach your IELTS results copy
3-) On page 4 of the application, select or tickmark the box "Result of CIC-approved third-party language test" .... may need to change the page altogether
4-) Attach a cover letter (and the letter you received from CIC) to explain that your application was returned and the changes you've made

No need to change anything about the fees... send the same proof of payment you sent before

TO arambi,
Thank you for the detailed response.

When I originally filed my application I was on 1100 days.
But I cannot understand what significant role does that play now?

Thank you,
ARD

Hi, your application is good and have been checked by the cic and the only missing document is the language result.

1- attach ielts ( general training) not academic to your application.
2- in the second page sent cic , select option 1 that you are re sending the missing dox.
3- sign and date in the bottom of the second page.
4- send ur apps and the 2 pages to cic :)

Hello ARD1979

First of your application will be treated as a new application no matter what, so once they receive it they will take it from step 1 again.

SO My suggestion is .. file a new application with a new calculator and sign everything with a new date because if they receive your application signed with old date 3 months or more that may be another reason for returning the application back, and make sure you check every single document's that you are sending this time, Now you will have more extra days to cover you residency requirement's which is good
Include a letter with your new application explaining that your first application was returned for 1-2-3 reason

Good luck and i hope everything goes well.

Good point OTTOWA2013,

ARD1979,
When I said "significant" days over the 1095 days required, I was just referring to the fact that higher number of days provide more room of error... but since you have 1100, I believe 5 days buffer is OK as long as you are very confident that you got the residency calculation right.

Now back to the point raised by OTTOWA2013, you might want to go with solution #2 I proposed... meaning:

1-) Redo application and residence calculator (and sign both with identical new or current date) - this will provide you with more days over the 1095 days required (unless you left CANADA after applying...) and will make your application current (no risk of rejection because of > 3 months old rule)
2-)Attach your IELTS results copy
3-) On page 4 of the application, select or tickmark the box "Result of CIC-approved third-party language test"
4-) Attach a cover letter (and the letter you received from CIC) to explain that your application was returned and the changes you've made

No need to change anything about the fees... send the same proof of payment you sent before

I must thank both of you.

I'm absolutely confident that my calculation is correct.

The problem is that I have a 6 month old baby and am at the beginning of a 2 month vacation in Europe with my whole family.
If I were to touch my old residency calculator, then everything crumbles and I'll have to get back to Canada sooner than planned or I should wait another 2 months while laws may change any day.

If I could just put my IELTS on top of my current application with a cover letter and send it back to them, then I could ask a close friend to do it on my behalf.

Please comment,
ARD

My college degree is "French writing for non-francophone" and I think the came up with the conclusion that a guy with writing skills cannot necessarily communicate!!! That's sick I know!!
But what can I do?

Application returned means never received. This is what was told by the call centre agent.

Now its upto you that you that you want to send same application with new language proof. If it is not more than three months old (stale dated) then you can simply attach your language proof and send the same application.

If it is above 90 days or if you choose to send new application, make sure all dates are same (cit0002, residency calculator application date and residence calculator signature date).

Thank you for the comment.
But 90 days from the date of my application signature or 90 days from the letter that they put on my returning application?
What makes you so certain about this period of 90 days?

Cheers
