Guys, I still don't understand these new measures. They say 'students may now study online from abroad until April 30, 2021, with no time deducted from the length of a future post-graduation work permit, provided 50% of their program of study is eventually completed in Canada.' And they also say 'Students who have enrolled in a program that is between 8 and 12 months in length, with a start date from May to September 2020, will be able to complete their entire program online from abroad and still be eligible for a post-graduation work permit.' Isn't this contradictory because they say you can complete whole program online if your program is 12 months long but in another case they say you have to complete 50% of course in canada?

Correct but if your semester starts in January 2021 (1 year course ) then you are only allowed to complete 50% online.

Only May/Fall 2020 people have the privilege to complete the 1 year course fully online.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, since this is a new information circling around.

I guess they are trying to encourage students to enroll in the up-coming fall term.

from the pessimist side:

It might means that students will not be allowed to travel until April 2021.

There were many others too, apart from me, who were all asking questions & were confused.

I needed clarity & more information from them.

I'm sincerely grateful for this update.

But, still need clarity, since this update applies to those who've just now applied for a study permit / have just obtained an AIP & have not yet obtained a full approval and visa issuance.

I still want to know when / whether those with a full Visa approval before March 18th can enter.

Or whether even those with a full approval before March 18th will be treated the same way as those who've just applied?

What about those with an already approved visa before March 18th? When can those people enter? Are those people with a full approval also subject to the same regulations as those who've just applied & waiting for the AIP? Oh god

I thought people with approved visa before March 18th can enter because they exempt this category.

No man! That "exemption" is of hardly any use, in practice. We need an "essential" reason to enter even if we have an approval before March 18th. I wish they really exempted & allowed those with an approval before March 18th.

I understand that most probably boarders will remain closed until April 2021 for international students whose classes are 100% online and they can study from outside Canada and in addition the fact that location is no longer an inconvenient for obtaining a PGWP... now there are no reasons for traveling before may 1st...

That means you can study from your country and consequently online classes (until apr 2021) are not an essential Reason for traveling including students with SP approved on or before March 18....

Even university international student advisors say they don't yet know how the 50% will be calculated. It's going to be September already! I just wish all of them could sort of come together to give us some clarity

No no, that measure of studying online from home fully without being penalized, only applies to those whose programs are 1 year or less. If it's more than 1 year, the 50% limit still holds.

Just curious, is your passport stamped and/or do you have the Letter of Introduction with you?

I completed the May semester Online, now I’m going to continue with Fall and Winter also online (2 year program). I really need to clarify this
