I know how to improve inland processing time. CANCEL IT altogether. I still don't understand why Canada even allows such non-sense.

All sponsorships should be done via outland method. If you are unhappy with long waits, apply OUTLAND, if you are unhappy with not being able to leave Canada during processing, apply OUTLAND. If you are unhappy that you cannot work when in reality you are a "visitor" or are out of legal status in Canada, apply OUTLAND and work in your own country. If you are unhappy with not being given free healthcare in Canada while being a "visitor" or a person out of legal status, stay in your own country with access to your country's healthcare and apply OUTLAND.

What do you mean by "foreign spouses can come in and work freely"?

1. Anyone who is being sponsored is obviously foreign; whether or not their spouse is a citizen is besides the point.
2. All visitors are not allowed to work and that's across the board.
3. Nothing prevents a visitor from finding an employer who is willing to go through the LMO process. This is what foreign workers do.
4. The spouse of a foreign worker who has a skilled job (falls under NOC O, A or B) and foreign student are eligible for a spousal open work permit. They have to apply and be approved, not just "come in and work freely" as you are suggesting.

I'm all for reducing wait times but against the creation of a two-tier system as far as foreign spouses are concerned.

Thank you. I will edit the petition to reflect the correct timeframe. Please support! CIC is doing things in a backward way: people already here dont get to work. spouses of Canadians dont get to work. foreign spouses can come in and work freely.

As much as inland applicants have a hard time with the timelines for PR sponsorships, you are forgetting that there were 2 choices for them to make. Inland and outland. Each with it own pros and cons. The people who made the choice of applying inland were fully aware of the consequences of their choice. You were not under the gun to choose inland.

The reason inland applicants takes lower priority over outland applicants is that the couple are already together. The outland approach is under the assumption that the couple are physically separated thus takes higher priority to bring the couple together, even if they are already together in Canada.

The CIC strike affected both inland and outland applicants. Even though the inland applications was not suppose to be affected by the strike. We all know how false that was. The outland applicants had their timeline extended along with the inland. How do you think the outland applicants would feel if you think inland applicants should take priority over them when they are apart waiting to be together seeing that inland applicants are already with their love ones.

If you are going to want to petition anything, petition it to reduce timelines for everyone, both inland and outland.

If a visa-exempted citizen show up at the port of entry to be with their spouses who are studying or working in Canada, they will be issued an Open Work Permit right at the spot.

If that same person shows up at POE to be with their Canadian spouses, they do not have that option.

Can you explain why the system works that way? It sounds like the one group of people are jealous about things the other groups are getting. But really, asking for a legal right to work sooner isn't very special.

While I take full responsibility for our decision to file an Inland application, based upon our situation, I must admit that I still don't understand the logic behind waiting for AIP to have an OWP.

It's as if it's a form of penalty to those that choose to be in Canada with their partner or spouse, as opposed to working in their home country and contributing to that local economy instead.

I've said it before...as long as the processing time does not go beyond the 11 months that was estimated for AIP, when I applied, I'll refrain from making too many comments, because that's what I signed up for. :)

If it goes to 11 months + 1 day...look out people!!! :-X

Other countries like USA and UK facilitates the process of granting Open Work Permit to spouses of their citizens. That is a win-win situation for everyone. I dont understand why Canada cant do the same for now. Even if they realize their mistake CIC is usually hesitate to go forward to admit and fix.

Agreed, but...once again, we knew what we were agreeing to when we mailed our Inland applications, right?

I'm still [relatively] happy in our decision to file Inland, but do wish that I at least understood why some of the things are the way they are.

Thank you. I will contact CBC reporter and ask if she could bring this up on CBC after we have reached 100 signatures. I can't do this alone. Please support the petition. CIC has increased processing time for inland spousal applications every month and people's lives are put in limbo.
I did say thank you Ponga :)
Just so you know I first contacted this reporter a few weeks ago and we communicated via email regarding the issue.
Today she sent out a thank you email to everyone who shared their experiences with CBC and advised people of Monday s coverage on this.

Thanks for contacting me through CanadaVisa.comregarding your concerns about CIC delays with processing inland sponsorship applications.

CBC's Go Public will be filing a national story on this issue on Monday, May 12th, starting on CBC radio in the morning, cbc.ca (online) all day, and on CBC TV News and News Network.

Many thanks for your emails. It's apparent that this is a huge issue affecting many people across the country. Your input was very helpful.

Stay tuned to CBC. And please continue to support your public broadcaster.

You completely missed the point of the post. I know how long outland takes, and what trials we go through. I am tired of inland applicants complaining they have it so hard, while people forced to apply outland (mostly from non visa exempt countries) are separated for years, and drained financially because outland applicants are forced to go to spouses country of residence and visit in order to prove to CIC that they share a real relationship. Women going through pregnancy and child bearing without the support of spouses ....etc.

Inland people through petition wonder why OWP can be issued quickly and easily to foreign spouses of temporary residents

Outland people opposes that same right given the inland spouses because they suffer too much from delay and want inland people to feel the same pain

We are all losers. Only CIC wins. :D

That's not the point. The point is, that if you feel economic route is easier, when married to a Canadian Citizen or PR CIC would not stop you from applying through a Foreign Worker stream, in which case you would even get more points for having family in Canada. Something me and my husband looked into as he is a skill trade and he could have been in Canada before even being granted PR, we decided to wait. His sponsorship took less than 6 months and he's already a PR.
