Passport Request(PPR) - Submit Passport in Canada despite applying in India

Hello Everyone,

I have been searching the forum for an answer to the below without much luck.

I had applied under CEC from India (New Delhi Visa Office). I have just received a Passport Request (PPR) to submit the passports at
CPP - Ottawa.

It is illegal to send passports from India to Canada.
Has anyone managed to get their passports across in some way to get the visa issued? If yes could you please advice how this can be done.

I have tried reaching out to Canadian High Commission - New Delhi and also to VFS Canada without much luck.

Based on my understanding, I have two options:

1) Get a Visitor visa for Canada and then fly out to Canada to submit the passports.

2) Send the passport across to Canada through somebody(Third person) who I know.

Could you please advice me on the best option among them or if there is an even better way of getting this done. Also if I go with option 2, then do I need to fill in Form IMM5476 Use of Representative at this stage of the processing. Also would CIC send back the passports to him/her (3rd person) as long as they have a Canadian Address which is written on the Return Envelope.

Hope some one can help with the correct info.

hi there,

this is going to be tough. We got our PPR on May 3rd but haven't submitted our passports yet as my spouse is back home and its illegal to mail passports overseas. Sine then I have been trying to find a way to get her passport here "legally"

I am also stuck with same options. I can have someone hand carry it for me but recently I called border services and they said it is strictly prohibited for someone to carry someone else's passport.

I sent them an email right after the PPR but they haven't got back to me yet. The only legal way would be to get it stamped from the local office serving your country, and that can only happen if Ottawa gets back to me.

I know there are lots of people who have been successful in sending the passport with someone, but that's a risky thing to do.

please let us know if you happen to find a way.

Just wondering, did you guys selected "New Delhi" as your visa office in your PR application or CPP-Ottawa?

This make me worried as well, as I am currently living in Australia and selected Sydney, Australia as my visa office.

In the same boat, haven't received medicals or PPR yet (I am september applicant) but my spouse lives in India. So soon I am going to have to worry about this!

From the forum, I see people saying that DHL does send passports to Canada if it's accompanied with letter from Ministry of External Affairs. I haven't tried it but maybe you should call DHL and see if they will do that. Also, try Speed Post (though I don't at all trust the Indian Postal System).

If you find a way, please do post it here... will help others!

Yes, I had selected New Delhi as the visa office.

But off late what I have noticed is that all Passport Requests come from CPP-Ottawa and they have made it compulsory to submit the passport in Canada.

Please let us know if anyone has gone through the same situation and got the visa issued.

Hi,

I'm yet to receive my passport request but soon will be in the same situation as yours.
I applied from Canada and returned back to India later on.

I know about an applicant who too applied from India and applied for his visitor visa. That's the safest option that I see.

BTW, where did you do your medicals from ?

Hey buddy - even if you get a visitor visa, CPP-O will not issue the visa in-person (unlike Buffalo).
So, please bear in mind that you have stay put in Canada for atleast 2-4 weeks before you get passports back.

I would say explore the friends-who-are-travelling route or may be the MEA/Courier route.

I think I am going to go with the option of sending it with a friend of mine. Hopefully it works out okay.

I did my medicals on May 7th and the Ecas was updated only after I got my passport request (May 27th)

I am also in the same situation..... My immigration lawyer said......both the ways could work i.e. someone carrying it for us with an authorization and sending via DHL (also with authorization).....I might need to do it by next month but want to make my choice in advance.....guess we should contact DHL......lets see what they say
