Passport Question

I received my study permit in January 2022 and it was too late for me to go into the Jan 2022 semester. I had to defer my enrollment to September 2022.

My visa is valid until October 2023. My passport is also valid until October 2023.

I am a resident of Pakistan. If I renew my passport right now, will the other passport still be valid?

Also, when i arrive at the port of entry, will they be able to give me a study permit that is longer than the date on it right now (October 2023).

I also have a similar issue, but after some enquiries I understood that we can renew our passport after reaching canada. I think that would be the best decision.

A few comments:

1. If you have a Visa (not a TRV nor an ETA), you should be able to renew your passport and at the port of entry, you should show your old passport that holds your valid Visa and your new passport which will act as your travel document. Valid visas, even if they are printed in an old passport, are valid throughout their duration.

2. Some countries require that your passport has at least six months of validity when traveling, so take this into consideration but in your case, it should not be a factor.

3. You did not receive a Study Permit, you received a Letter of Introduction. Your Study Permit will be issued by a Visa Officer at the port of entry. The VO should take into consideration your new Letter of Acceptance (the one you received after deferring to the September Intake). The validity should be in line with the new LOA but there is no way of knowing until they issue the document.

I wonder if I receive a Letter of Introduction later after fall classes begin, can I arrive 2-3 weeks before winter intake but with new Letter of Acceptance of different university in a same city? Are they responsible to change DLI right at the border immigration office.

Apparently, rules have changed regarding changing DLI. As far as I know, if you want to change DLI after IRCC has approved your application, you have to submit a new Study Permit application. The only way to work around this is to study one term at your original DLI, and then proceed to change to a new DLI.

I'm not clear about the details, look around in the forum, there are lots of threads about this topic.
