Hi there,
Would you be able to give me an idea on how to proceed with options that I have?

I have my mother applied for super parent visa to Canada. She recently got approved and have her visa. The only issue is, while we were applying I ended up sending her old passport expiring in one year. In the process she was renewing her passport. We suddenly got the 30 day notice to provide the passport otherwise her online application will be declined. We tried our hardest to get the passport renewed on time. We even contacted CIC and let them know of our situation but we never receive a response. Now, on September 2015. Passport office in Manila Philippines will finally issue her new passport which will invalidate her old passport. The problem is, her visitor is stamped on the old passport. What do you think should we do. Thank you for your help.

FYI:
My other has not left Philippines yet and just recently got her Visa. However we're having issues because her new passport is being issued by passport office on September 2015. Her Visa is stamped on her old passport. Getting her new passport will void the old passport.

You don't need to do anything.

When travelling you will have to travel with both passports, and hand in both to the officer when entering the country.

Renewing one's passport will void the old passport but not the valid visas. Your mom will travel with both, and hand in both to the officer.

For example, I got a 10-year visitor visa to the US in 2009 but my passport expired in 2011. Once the passport expired, I got a new one - the old passport has the word CANCELED stamped in most pages (but not the ones with immigration stamps or visas) and now I travel with both, the visa in the old passport is still valid and I use the new one to enter the country. There won't be any issues by doing that.

Thanks for the reply. That took out some worry for me. Now the next question is my most worry. In her super visa says "Multiple Entry" and valid dates are from "July 7, 2015 with expiry date of "October 10, 2016". Which sucks by the way.

Is she allowed to ask for extension for this situation once she arrives in Canada.? Or does she need to go back home again and start the whole process for super visa?

A whole new process has to be started again.

Yes, it sucks as the Supervisa cannot be given pass the validity of the passport. If passport renewal is in mind, then you have to do that first BEFORE applying for Supervisa.

So how come Brazilians have been getting a 10-year SuperVisa when the Brazilian passport is only valid for 5 years? (Now they're changing it to 10 years but until today all we have is a 5-year passport)

Thanks for the reply. when you say a new process has to be restarted again, does it mean that she will have to go back home before I can start the process? Can I just submit the application while she is in Canada? Besides it's still under the 2 years maximum per stay.

As long as you comply with all the requisites for the supervisa then you can do as you please. Be sure to check all requisites for applying, specially the ones that talk about physical presence (if any).

That's a good question.

The maximum validity date for the multiple entries Super Visa is ten years, or one month prior to the applicant’s passport’s expiry, whichever is earlier.

immigration.ca/en/canada-visa/parent-and-grandparent-super-visa.html

But perhaps it has some exceptions.

Thanks for the reply. This is where the mess up begins. My mothers old passport was only good for a year and they issue her a multiple entry only good for a year. Lol what a joke. I don't know what to do at this point. I can't see any reference about applying for another super visa while in Canada. I was really hoping that she gets a 5 year visa at least. It will be a total waste of money if I have her fly to come here for several months only to go back home right away then re-apply again and spend all that money again.

Have you seen any reference regarding re-applying for super visa while in Canada already? Please let me know. Thanks.

You have to apply in your country of residence. Where you are physically is of no concern to Canada.
