Parents Sponsorship Withdraw

I have an odd problem: my application is going through faster than expected, and my mother does not want to leave Mumbai for at least a few more years, not least because her brother is not well and she wants to spend time with him. So I am thinking of withdrawing the current application and reapplying in January 2017. I would like to know if this is a good idea and if the withdrawal will be held against me! If I withdraw, how long will it take for the withdrawal to be processed?

I don't know if that's a good idea, because if you re-apply in 2017, you'll probably have to start over again in terms of processing time.

Why don't you just ask your mom to come to Canada and land as a PR, then return to Mumbai? She doesn't even need to stay longer than a day.

I agree that she could just land in Canada, then go back home. she only needs to stay in Canada for two years out of every five to keep her PR status.
One problem if you withdraw and reapply is that as she gets older she might develop a health problem that would make it impossible for her to pass the medical.

Of course, it is up to you. You can withdraw and reapply later. It should not be held against you - you can just explain that because her brother was ill, she did not want to immigrate to Canada at that time.

Thanks very much for the replies. I received a letter approving me as a sponsor, and my mom's application has been sent to CPC-Ottawa. Any guesses as to when they will ask for the medical tests? I applied in Jan 2015, so you can see that everything has moved very fast!

I would also suggest continuing with the application as well, and just have your mum come for a quick visit just to land and see you! I'm sure she would like to visit you and know she has her residency and can come back to you when she's ready...

At the moment, you're in a long line of people who have been transferred to Ottawa this year. To give you an idea of processing time, my mum was transferred in February 2016 (we're 2014 applicants), and was asked for medicals at the beginning of June (she had already completed one for a supervise), so we received request for police certificates and right of permanent residency fee a week later. All of that has completed a week ago, so we're just waiting for passport request. However, I think we were in the first batch of people being transferred.... so the wait may be a little longer now... but then again who knows!! it's very unpredictable!

You should also keep in mind, if you withdraw and apply again next year, they may change the rules again!

I would continue on... it may come sooner rather than later, or it may not....

I would suggest not withdrawing the application as well

Even if you get the medical request right away (which is doubtful) she can wait up to a full year to do the landing and then she can leave canada for up to 3 years to still be eligible to renew the PR

So we are talking about 4+ years

Thanks very much for your kind, supportive replies! Yes, I think it is best to stay with the application, all things considered. One another thing I am paranoid about is that they are sending all communication by Email, and my Gmail account is notorious for sending things to the Trash or Spam folders. I check as often as I can, but sometimes I forget. In the event I miss the email about the med exam or anything else, will they send a reminder? I don't want them to reject my file because of such a mishap!

Well. reminder won't help in such a case, as it will be sent directly to spam as well ...

Just do a notification (on google calendar) for yourself once a week to check the spam directory

As everyone is suggesting, don't withdraw the application. Today, you may feel the process is fast but in 2017 when you will reapply and want the process to be fast; it may be the other way around.

your mom has 1 year after medical to arrive in Canada and can leave whenever she wants.

A question that this thread raises is, what happens if the mother stays in India for 4+ years? Is a person who voluntarily renounces PR status because they haven't met (or won't meet) the residency obligation treated any differently in a future PR application?

well they would be treated just like new applicant. Only thing is they would retain their CIC Client ID number....and that they would be in CIC's system already. They would ofcourse have to meet all criteria again too. Including new medical exam and security clearances and all that
