Hi all,
Question about visa issue / landing and passport validity.
Is there any requirement as to for how much time till expiry the passport should have for visa issue and /or for landing in Canada?

My parents are about to submit passports for visa next week (they are flyign back to home country from canada). Their passports actually expire in Jan 2014 so I thought it should be fine but now started worrying what if it should be say at least a year or maybe at least 6 months at landign time etc?

My parents could not apply for new home country passport while in canada anyway plus it is stil almost a year on their current one. They would not have time to apply for new one once they are back because they have to submit the passports right away (as it would be 30 day window). Plus our country usually does not allow applyign for new passport if the old one still has over 6 months of validity.

Anyone had experience getting PR visas / landing with passport not too far from expiry date?
Passports should have Atleast one year validity before the Visa's can b issued.
Earlier it was 6months but now it's one year.
So u better write to CHC and ask more more time and renew your passports asap.
There is scheme called tatkaal which helps you to renew your passport in few days in exceptional cases. U have to pay more money for that obviously.
I was in Melbourne before and my passport had only 9months validity left and meanwhile I got medical for Canada and they asked for passports too.
I had to renew my passport so that's why I know abt it.
Don't panic. Just let the high commision know. They might say u to send receipt of applied passport with other documents. And u can submit new passports as soon as they come.

You do not need to worry, as your medicals were completed in Oct 2012 and once your visa is issued it will be valid until Oct 2013, meaning your parents will have to land before Oct 2013 within the validity of your current passport. Once your parents become PR in Canada they can renew their passports in Canada from their home country embassy.

For immigrant visa there is no rule, I think, for at least 1 year validity of passport. In the PPR letter, it is written that visa is issued until <<Date>> and this date is 1 year from medicals or before the expiry of your or your spouse's passports which ever comes first.

I meant the cardiologist not the panel physician.all these tests and prognosis will be done by cardiologist.did they ask you to where to go or it's upto you? Whom they ask you to contact?
In our LVO our panel physicians decide which cardiologist will write the prognosis, they have a cic approved list of cardiologists and other specialists.
One thing more what does your ecas shows about medical? Does it say meds receieved?
