First of all - congratulations!
As far as medicals are concerned, you can undergo your tests here while your parents in India. However, with regards to passports, you may have to mention on the covering letter (of passport request) about your situation and that once the application is finalised you would submit your passports. This is just a suggestion, not sure if CIC would accept it.

Edit: You cannot send your passport to India. As per Indian laws, it is illegal to send passport overseas by mail. But if you have someone going there, that`s a different issue. Then again, you`d have to worry about landing formalities.

thanks sakamath

Last step, yes, the visa is valid 1 year after the medical exam.

In our case, it was mentioned in PPR letter that immigrant visa will be valid until April 03, 2013 - one year from the date my parents went to DMP for medicals. They have given us 1 year from the date of our 1st medical... not the additional medicals.... that we completed in July....

Congratulations Raj and all others who received PPR request.
Visa validity 1 year from the date of our 1st medical -- hmm.. a concern, especially if you are still undergoing background checks.

My parent did medical in July 2012 and the visa is valid till July 2013.
My in-laws did medical on 22 Dec 2011 and we are still waiting for Visa. They were asked to resubmit PCC in early Nov 2012.

This is normal I think. I personally know a family where the Delhi LVO phoned them to come collect Visa by hand and then land in Canada in next 4 days as their medical was expiring. So I am hoping my inlaws will get Visa before the medicals expire - I am not looking forward to re-doing medical and then re-re-doing PCC, I will rather have them land on a short notice.

I know what you are asking. I have no clue what CPP-O is doing with some applications. Only thing I know is, in my case Criminality is still "IN PROGRESS" from more than 9 months.
If you have done medicals on 12-April-2012 then visa expiry date will be up to 11-April-2013. I hope to get PPR at least next month.
