I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is necessary to have a return ticket when landing as an immigrant. We hope to land at the end of January but need to come back to the UK later but do not know exactly when so would like to just book a one way ticket this time and buy a return when we know our dates but am not sure of the protocol. I assume it should be OK as we will be landed immigrants and in theory could be not returning to Uk at all . Any information would be welcome.

Hi Nana,
You do not need a return ticket if you are landing as an immigrant. That's the purpose of a PR - to permanently reside in Canada. Its up to you to have a one-way ticket, a confirmed return ticket or an open return ticket. Once you land and complete the landing formalities (signing a few forms), you would have to provide a Canadian residential address. It is at this address that CIC would mail you a PR Card. While this card is not necessary to leave Canada, it is very important that you have it on your return to Canada. It takes about 2 months (or a little more) to receive this card. In the absence of this card, you would have to apply for a travel document to be able to return to Canada.

Hi Folks,
I applied for parents and sibling in sept 2007

Hi mtechian,

A lot depends on where your parent's file is processed. Those processed at LVO NDelhi, have noticed that once the medicals are cleared, it takes 2-3 months for them to issue the visa.

Thanks
I forgot to mention, the LVO is NEW DELHI

Thanks for your prompt response ,that's kind of what I thought but it's good to have it confirmed.

Hello All: Good news: My parents got visa on Monday December 10, 2012. The officer from ND office called on Saturday morning and asked if we can land before 4th Jan 2013. He was really nice and talked to my mom in Hindi and inquired about my dad. When my mom told he is in Delhi for wedding, he provided the option to come in person and collect it. He also provided his name and number to contact him to setup time. Sweet ending to this five year melodrama.
All the best to all you guys and wish everyone gets good news this holiday season. TC
@ Kandel: can you please change my status to GREEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNN...thanks everyone..especially AtulW and Rebel... :)
