Other supporting documents, educational docs, birth certificates or etc, police certificates, ID cards, any translations or certifications, etc should be obtained now and have them ready. When CIC releases the new forms and requirements, then you fill them all in, get them signed and submit with fees.
sponsor should also obtain his/her docs, such as Option-C printouts from CRA, Notices of Assessment etc as those will be required, at least for last 3 years
They always want everyone's detailed history/activities since age 18......not last 10 yrs, but since age 18. Ask your parents to start compiling that, use the current forms as a reference and fill them up......that way u will have all the info handy....
Thank you canvis, makes sense.
Another question if you don't mind: As I understand it, this is a two step process where the Sponsor and Principal applicant first fill out a few forms and supporting documents and apply and then wait for CIC to approve the application.
Once the application is approved, the principal applicant has to send country specific supporting documents and forms to CIC (such as Police clearance, photographs etc).
Is there any advantage of sending all the documents at once? Or will CIC request updated documents in any case 2 or 3 years down the line when they finally start working on it? As per the CIC website, the principal applicant has 1 year from the date of CIC approval of the application:

"When your sponsor receives positive results from his sponsorship assessment from the Case processing Centre in Mississauga (CPC-M), you have one year to complete the forms and gather all the required documents. The ideal is to send them as soon as possible to the appropriate visa office. "
Finally, is there any advantage to hiring a lawyer? My case is very simple, I am a single guy wanting to sponsor his mother only. I meet all the requirements including income for 2011, 2012 and 2013. Unfortunately, the program reopens in Jan 2013, so I won't have my 2013 Notice of Assessment ready, but I can of course send payslips.
EDIT: I checked the forms, and it seems the information required is since age 18 or for the past 10 years, whichever is more recent. Where did you find the requirement for all info from age 18 only?
