May I kindly ask when did you submit/send your application to Ottawa? Or, how long does it take from sending the application until receiving the AoR?
Thank you very much
The package was received on April 11 and AoR e-mail was sent on April 19 (it looks like it was a good day as a lot of people in this discussion reported receiving AoR on that day :) )

I am not sure if this is how the IRCC lottery system work though. May be I understand this process wrongly...
Say the Lottery is open on Jan 2, 2018 and people start submitting their interest to sponsor. The online form closed on Feb 2, 2018 and assuming there are 100,000 submissions. IRCC will remove all dup and assuming after this removal process, there are still around 80,000 submission. Then IRCC randomly pick 10,000 submission out of this 80,000 pool. Now, IRCC start sending invitation to this 10,000 submissions and giving them deadline of May 25, 2018 to submit the papers application.
As we already know by now, some of the posters here (those who have been invited within the 10,000 quota) have been saying that they were selected this year but after carefully read through, they realized that they did not meet the LICO to be eligible hence they just took someone else spot. Those spots, in my understanding, will be made available for IRCC to select again from the pool in the 2nd round.

So, with this kind of process (as I said, the way I understand it), how could IRCC receive more than 10,000 qualified applications?
They accepted 15,000 lottery entries this year, not 10,000. So they are already accounting for possibly 5,000 apps (1 in 3 ) will be ineligible. They may very well get more than 10K eligible apps submitted. As I said, the number of people posting on this site who are ineligible but won a lottery spot, is significantly less than last year.

After the two draws last year, did they eventually receive 10,000 completed applications?

No, last year there were so many ineligible people that applied, I don't think they got close to 10K eligible apps even after the 2nd draw. I don't think they ever released the final numbers of how many good apps they actually ended up getting.

Perhaps that's why they accepted 15K apps already, and don't mind if they end up taking in more than 10K apps this year.

Yeah, you are right. All the confirmation numbers add up to 15,000 heh. I did not know about this until now... It would be interesting to know what if IRCC received more than 10,000 eligible app.?
And I come across this article giving some number about 2017 app.

So seems like they indeed got close to 10K apps last year, just 500 short.

If they get more than 10K, they will still accept them for processing. They won't refuse an app if you are eligible and were selected in lottery.

All I know is that any Tom Dick Or Harry can throw their hat into the "interest to apply" lottery. Anyone. Even if they are orphans. So this system is open to abuse.

You mean like that one dude from last year who knew he wasn't eligible, yet not only did he fill out the lottery, but had all his siblings (residing outside Canada) fill it out too ? On top, he had the audacity to brag about it on this forum, all when people were getting rejection emails.

Which dude was that? Well yes I guess. I have made my feelings about this lottery system known for a long time. To the extent that forum admin has me on their watch list.

I'd say a lottery is fair. However, there are different ways you can conduct lotteries. Most lotteries involve the person sacrificing something in return for that chance. Most times it is money. Sometimes it is time eg like calling into a radio competition.

My suggestion is to ban people who don't respect the rules and laws for a period. If you don't qualify and are picked in the lottery and don't submit a valid (if you dont submit anything we assume you didn't qualify) application especially on LICO grounds which was clearly stated on the intent to apply form, then you should be banned for 3 years from entering the lottery again.

I've had the discussion with many here about $$. The reason why lottery was set up was $$. Also many have explained that there is no law broken when you say that your income passes the LICO requirements ("false declaration"). So it is hard to justify a $$ fine.

Ban would suffice for me. Simply cos I don't really want to see the parties get hurt. I just don't want them spoiling the lottery. It's like throwing all kinds of hockey teams into the Lottery and then first pick goes to some rural area hockey team and then they go...oh sorry we are not in the NHL but we said we are.

Hi,
Need we write the full name(first and last) on the back of the photo? Or writing the first name is enough?
Thanks.
