Hi guys,

I've been looking for an outline of the overall procedure as to how the whole process of application is going on. You guys seem to have a lot of background knowledge, but I'm uncertain about some points.

My husband and I going to be applying for my permanent residency from Berlin, Germany (I'm German.).
I've understood it like this so far:

1. We will pay the fees and send the application to Mississauga
2. They might ask for further documents (concerning both his application to sponsor and my application for PR?) and then hopefully accept him.
3. Next, they will send the application to Vienna and we will wait...
4. and then what? I understood we MIGHT have to go there for an interview (how long in advance are they letting us know? We might be already living in Canada at that time...)
5. And will I have to go there again with my passport once I'm accepted? I've read comments of other people implying that but I don't know whether that depends on the nationality.
6. Have I forgotten something crucial?

I'm confused... I'm sure there's a detailed outline somewhere in this forum but I didn't find it ;-)
It would be great to have some info as to what we will have to expect...

Thanks guys!

I've understood it like this so far:

Before this Is your husband a PR or canadian?

If PR he has to stay in canada and fulfilled Residency obligations, provide necessary documents to support you to be qualified as sponsor
and you might need todo upfront medicals and all other documents filled, signed and send them to your hus. Both your application set and his application set must go together

1. We will pay the fees and send the application to Mississauga

2. They might ask for further documents (concerning both his application to sponsor and my application for PR?) and then hopefully accept him.
Provide what ever documents you may think necessary so they wont ask again as it will slowdown process

3. Next, they will send the application to Vienna and we will wait...

you may get a approval.not every application goes for an interview
4. and then what? I understood we MIGHT have to go there for an interview (how long in advance are they letting us know? We might be already living in Canada at that time...)

Are you from a visa exempt country or Do u have a valid visa at present. If you dont have both you need towait until your PR is approved

D
5. And will I have to go there again with my passport once I'm accepted? I've read comments of other people implying that but I don't know whether that depends on the nationality.

yes you need to landing and stay 2 out of 5 for pr card renewal aand 4 out of 6 years for citizenship thats long way to go.It applies to any nationality
6. Have I forgotten something crucial?

I'm confused... I'm sure there's a detailed outline somewhere in this forum but I didn't find it ;-)

Hi, thanks so much!

Sorry I forgot to mention: my husband is Canadian and living with me in Germany right now.
I am from a visa exempt country (Germany)- do I understand it right that I only might have to go to Vienna once then (for an interview) but not again with my passport?
We might move to Canada before I get approved, on a working holiday visa (if that works out)- and wait for my approval there.

As you're mentioning it - do you know by chance if that requirement to keep my PR (2 out of 5 years) is also valid if my (Canadian) husband lives abroad with me? Or does it only apply when I live abroad on my own. Just out of curiosity :)

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor a spouse, a common-law partner or conjugal partner, or a dependent child who has no children of his or her own. However, you must demonstrate that you will live in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.

Note: Permanent residents residing abroad may not sponsor from outside of Canada. Canadian citizens travelling as tourists are not considered to be residing abroad.

It also mentions that when sponsor applies he should be in canada.I think it may be difficult to post application from germany.you may need to send it to family or friends who may repost it. I'm not sure how vienna works with PR applications. Some embassies ask passport during initial stage and keep it with them until decision made check out in forum if any

You can send your application in now. Your husband will have to prove his intent to return to Canada.

If you have a lot of proof of your relationship and no red flags, then your chances of being called to an interview are fairly low. As you are visa-exempt, you will not be required to send your passport to Vienna. They will mail you the COPR. Be sure to update them if/when you move to Canada.

The residency obligations are for all PRs. You must live in Canada 2 out of every rolling 5 years. Days spent abroad with your Canadian spouse count as days spent in Canada. Note that if you have Condition 51, you must cohabit with your spouse for 2 years after becoming a PR.

Thanks for your advice, guys!

The proof of our relationship should be fine, I'm more concerned about the proof of my husbands intent of returning to Canada. As this is only going to happen earliest in 2017 (our baby will be born next summer and I have to finish my studies too) he doesn't have anything such as job offer (he's a cook, won't be a problem to get a job), mortgage and so on- we only have a letter from his mother that we can move in with her until we find our own place, and proof of a substantial amount of savings (so they don't have to worry we won't be getting financial issues).....
My husband is not worried, but honestly I am...

My Canadian husband was living outside of Canada when Sponsorship Approval was granted, however he had just bought property in Canada before we applied and we included details of that as well as copies of applications to schools for our children so I think this may have been a big thing in proving intent to reside in Canada.

We moved to Canada while the process was underway and changed the address held on file on the CIC website.

When we landed we told immigration exactly why we were entering Canada. We had copies of everything but they didn't ask to see anything.

I got my passport request on November 11th but as a UK passport holder (and therefore visa exempt) I only had to send passport copy not original passport. The letter I got with my PPR said if I was in Canada and would be for 3 months then I could send passport copy to Ottowa instead. I did this and received COPR back 10 days after I sent the copies to them
