hey guys, quick question here
for an outbound sponsorship application, if approved,
now as i understand the sponsor has to leave the country of his residence and move to Canada, is there a time frame on this?
and the sponsor would have to stay in Canada until the when?? until the applicant get the PR? or can he leave after some time?
any rules or regulations on this topic?!

Canadian citizens can submit applications from abroad however they must also prove that they will return to Canada or show intent to return to Canada once PR is approved.

If applying from Canada yes PR may visit but not long visits to keep their own PR Active. Citizens may travel but both should submit application from Canada before travel.

If you are a PR then your country of RESIDENCE has to be Canada not your home country to apply for Spousal sponsorship. You have to remain in Canada for the duration of the sponsorship except it seems that short trips of less than a month are OK. If you are a citizen there is no requirement to be in or stay in Canada. There are no hard, fast rules or regulations on the topic. Just from peoples past experiences on this forum that seems to be what the IRCC officers will tolerate before determining you are not a resident of Canada and you do not qualify to sponsor your spouse if you are a PR.

Some people have stayed out of the country longer than a month and seems like it was OK probably because the officer wasn't aware of it. Others have had their Sponsor Approval not approved because they were not considered to be a resident of Canada as they were out of the country for long periods of time. It's up to you if you want to take that chance.

hey mate,, to clarify my question a little more,
i am a citizen currently living abroad, i applied to sponsor my wife (resides with me).
if the application goes thru and gets approved... i obviously have to move to Canada with my wife to begin with,, now my question is how long do i (personally) have to remain in Canada for? is there a time frame?

thanks for the reply

You have to prove intent to return to Canada to get approved so you’ll need to show proof that you will be relocating like buying a home in acanada or selling your home abroad, resigning from your job and/or getting a job in Canada, making inquiries about jobs/homes in Canada, contact with friends and family announcing your relocation, etc. If you have been abroad for quite some time you will need solid proof. Unfortunately people have essentially landed and not relocated so the burden of proof has increased. Your spouse must meet their RO. You can count time spent abroad with your Canadian spouse but if you land and leave soon after that time together may not be counted. If you have no intention of remaining in Canada why are you sponsoring your spouse right now and not in the future when you want to settle permanently?

i do have intentions to move and remain in Canada
i am just worried tho i may not be able to find a job to support the fam, in that case i'd have to look for a job abroad and leave my wife and kids settled in canada, would that be ok??
