organising forms - staple pages together?

Hi,

im just trying to organise my forms to finally send off the application. I couldve sworn i read somewhere in the guide NOT to staple pages together, but i cant find this now. It would be very handy if i could staple some together, esp the application forms, as there is so many pages and it just seems so messy.
Anyway, dumb question but does anyone know if im not allowed use staples or did i imagine reading this?
thanks :)

You definitely did read it, and it's in the official Guide (can't remember if it's sponsor or applicant, maybe both). But it's there for sure. Good thing you didn't staple them already!

we stapled all our paperwork together - forms, emails, copies, proofs... and it worked just fine. as far as I remember from the guide, they don't like the binding stuff, staples are ok.

Sorry Suin, but I'm with nyssa on this one; they clearly state NO STAPLES or plastic folders.

Probably because they need to feed the papers through a copier or scanner or something.

We used paperclips and nested them, if you see what I mean? ie attaching all the pages from the same form or group of similar docs together in one paperclip, then we grouped all the different forms/copies for sponsor together with the checklist on the front with a larger paperclip, idem for the applicant's package, and a third time for our cover letter and our big pack of PoR docs except it was so thick we needed a big metal butterfly clip or whatever you call it. In the end there were three packs of documents but there were loads of paperclips and stuff that I had doubts... and I still don't know if it was the easiest for them to flip through. I liked the ideas I've read on here of either a couple paper folders to organise the main groups of documents or big letter sized envelopes and a smaller envelope for photos.

The more staples there are for the IOs to remove, the crankier and slower they will be - bad for all of us! :)

Suin - that must be the good old "exception but not rule" bit! Ella is right that I couldn't find that information anywhere... not even on a guide... which is strange. Maybe it's on the forms? I do remember seeing it clearly stated and now for the life of me, I can't find WHERE! I'm on a mission...

The simpler solution is to assemble the application, in the order you like, then number the pages consecutively.

I cannot find it either  how strange?

Well we didn't staple any of ours, we used paper folders and they didn't seem to have a problem with it.

On the front of each folder we wrote a list of contents so it was all easy to navigate. We arrannged everything in order of the document checklist also.

I used paper clips to group the papers together and numbered sticky notes that refer to the numbers on the document checklist.

Maybe they deleted that part from the guide? It's almost mildly frusterating haha searching for something you remember seeing in the past!

I searched all the forms and they didn't mentioned anything against staples. I just said from my experience - what we did and there was not any problem. our application was approved.
Sure everyone can have his/her own decision how to make his/hers application done.

the only thing that I found in the forms - was related to pictures - here is an extract from it:

'Note: Photos must be loose. Do not send them in binders, albums,
frames or other such containers. Do not send video discs or video cassettes. Do not send musical
greeting cards or other similar documents containing electronic or mechanical devices.'

I agree with you Suin. I am now convinced that they changed their policy, or else that information is hidden... but I don't know why they would hide it. I am going to avoid staples just in case (i.e. how they flip flop continuously between needing state police clearances and not) but apparently it isn't as huge of an issue as it once was.

you are right, nyssa. as they say, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I just found in the Skilled Worker checklist the following info:

'Gather documents as listed. Check each item on the checklist and attach the checklist to your documents (a paper clip will do). Place all the documents in a sealed envelope. Do not send originals unless otherwise stated.'

Just used the computer's search function on all the forms and guides :) and it does seem to be mysteriously gone! I know it was there because both my hubby and I had read it independently and we both mentioned it when preparing our file (and some of you confirmed it! and I've been taking my anti-hallucinogens as directed by my Dr ;) ). So maybe they found all our paperclips just as annoying... whatever, too late for us now.
