My fiancee and I (Canadian Citizen) are planning on getting married. She is here from philippines in the live-in caregiver program. We want to know the best option for her to get her open permit and PR. She plans on applying for her open permit and PR in may when her contract is over. We will wait for her OP then get married and then wait for her PR.
After reading about the new sponsorship rules, I think that it might be better to get married now and I sponsor her. I have a few questions.
1. getting married and me sponsoring her, is there any risk that something will go wrong and she will have to leave?
2. Ielts test - does she have to do the test for PR? If I sponsor her, will she still have to do that test?
3. What are the pros and cons of each option?
4. also on a side note, will having a child during her PR waiting period effect her application at all?
I am telling her that sponsorship is the way to go to get the PR faster and its safer, but she has her mind set on applying herself. I don't want to put our lives on hold for years just because she thinks this is the better option.
Thank you.
