Dear All,

We landed last year in july and came back to dubai, now after 2 months we are going to canada permanantly. Can you please advise me that what is the best way to transfer your money to canada? And is money you are carrying from dubai is taxable? I will really appreciate your advise and valuable suggestion.

transfer to your account in Canada is the best and cheaper way and transfer thrugh any exchange is more cheaper than any bank in UAE.
for the first three years of landing ur foreign income is not taxable but when u transfer huge amount then they can ask you the source of income such as sale of house or Saving account or national bonds sale etc. nothing to worry.

I understand recently KOTAK MAHINDRA BANK from India has tied-up with Scotia bank for opening an account in Canada from outside after you get the Visa stamped on the passport. See http://www.scotiabank.com/ca/en/0,,4362,00.html and https://www.kotak.com/kotaknri/Scotia/Canada/Home.html

No. As long as your have a valid bank statement that shows balance within Canada you are good to go.

Thanks for the info.

This forum is inactive since may 2014. I want to know if I can open an account from Pakistan in Calgary Canada as I m leaving for Canada in june 2015 .

CIBC can let you open an account on a visitor's visa. I am an Applicant form a backlog my case was held up on an adoption issue (my daughter's daughter).

I went to canada on a one week visit in 2011 and I opened an account at CIBC in Ottawa. All I had to do was to explain that I had a PR file in process with CIC London and I needed an account to transfer the funds should I be granted PR. At first they refused but they took my number and later on they phoned at my brother's house and asked me to call back at the branch. They opened a current account for me and requested that I keep it in credit. They issued me with a bank card on the spot and I could use it to withdraw funds from Europe. When I land I will just transfer the funds into the account.
