My husband stays in Mississauga... What do you reckon about that place?
and -20 is coldddd! tell me, can you really tell the difference between say -10, -20 and -30? or do all of these temperatures just fall into the "mind numbingly cold" bracket..

Are you suggesting something better (or worse) about Mississauga b/c CIC is there? Just kidding CIC oversight (there's my paranoia)

regarding -20, I would agree with the comments on Wind Chill. I would rather -40 no wind chill vs -15 with wind chill.

Considering the comment wasn't directed at you I think you may be just a bit overly sensitive. I do not disregard the importance of the french influence in our history but I also won't take Quebecers so seriously not to make a few jokes at their expense.
I've made a few jokes about Winnipeg as well. I haven't seen anyone get bent out of shape about that.

CJG, saying about Quebecers, whose language is at the centre of their identity, that they don't speak real French is a "joke" that is on the same level as other stereotypes such as the drunk Irish, the lazy Mexicans, or what have you. The "lack of humour" and "oversensitivity" defence is also an old and worn out excuse.

If it makes you feel any better, I also chastise Quebecers who entertain the equally distasteful and inaccurate cliché of English Canadians as culture-free, money-obsessed, stuck-up bores.

Remember we're here to be supportive and help each other with the immigration process. It's hard to tell inflection and tone over the internet, but it's best to assume things are said in a light hearted spirit.

My most FRUSTRATING moment is actually due to this forum LOL... so we all know the forum sign in is linked to our email... so the first time someone sent me a private message, I got an EMAIL that said it was from

"CIC Immigration Forum".. well, I didn't think anything about the whole forum part of that title, I just saw CIC Immigration and I started FREAKING out... I was like.. "Is it good?! Is it bad?! That was very fast after Stage 2 AOR... I hope it's not a rejection" and my mind went through a million emotions.. and I finally clicked on it and it said,

"You have received a message on the forum from... " LOL... and it was just sumthing silly the person messaged me about...


I juuuuust about threw my laptop through the window that day....

There is a reason why stereotypes exist. Its because they contain an element of truth within a generalization and context. People have to learn to be able to laugh at themselves. The Irish are drunks and have yet to meet one that denies it. Mexicans are lazy. When they can nap in the middle of the day they call it a siesta. In Canada if you can nap in the middle of the day you are unemployed. English Canadians are money obsessed because we have to pay for Quebec's priviledges; we are stuck-up bores; we are not so much culture-free as culture washed. English Canada absorbs all other cultures and makes them their own. Quebec makes anything not french illegal.
I'm a proud Canadian and it certainly includes our french history but I'm not going to treat Quebec like some special needs child. The province is corrupt at every level and has been for decades. It has been pandered to and paid off and doesn't even participate at a Federal level. I love to visit the place. Montreal is my favourite city but I would never live there.
You haven't lived there in 25 years? I guess you can take the Quebecer out of Quebec but you can't take the Quebec out of a Quebecer.

I have some giggles at Quebecers' expenses...but then I laugh at myself, too, and my TERRIBLE accent in french. I was taking my cart back after unloading groceries into my car yesterday, and I noticed another guy had just emptied his cart. As it's no more effort to take two carts back than one, I said, "Je peux prendre." (Yes, I know I sound a bit mentally deficient in french...and you can't even hear my terrible anglo-Okie accent!) I got a "QUOI?" from him, before charades helped me relay the message.
