Hey Everybody,

I did not see this being discussed anywhere on this forum but I am really concerned about my reference letters. I have been employed by 3 different companies in the past 2 years: October 2012 to August 2013 , November 2013 to May 2014 and June 2014 till now in the third company. My letter of reference from all three companies is complete in terms of Start work date, salary, hours, job description, etc but the problem is that their issue date is before the termination of the position. For example the letter of reference for the first job is for June 02, 2013.
I was wondering if anybody was in the same situation? Does CIC require the reference letter to be issued after I was terminated to cover the whole employment period or is it OK otherwise.
I would appreciate if anybody could share their experience.

Cheers

Yes, the letter of employment should cover the entire period for which you want to claim experience. I can't say what they would do now, but certainly in the past, applicants have been refused because the VO only gave credit for the period preceding the date on the letter.

Do your best to get updated letters. If for some reason, you cannot get them, you'll have to write a letter of explanation (provide proof if you can, for example, an email from your former employer, refusing to give you a new letter). It would be good as well to provide a copy of your record of employment (ROE) as some evidence of your full period of employment. But there's no guarantees that it will work...

Thanks Jes-ON. I just emailed the former employers. I just hope they would reply soon even if they refuse to give me an updated letter.
