OHIP card is not renew because of BOWP

Guys you don't need work letter for BOWP to apply for new OHIP card you can apply with AOR email, since you have a pending PR app, you only need peice of ID and AOR letter thatès all I had to submit to get my new OHIP card, you also need your current work permit, no need for employment letter.

what do you mean bro, I asked the lady at the front, if she needs my work letter she said, she only needs to see CIC letter, for AOR. it clearly say that in the website, you can try it your self. if you need ohip, They cannot deny you it, because you dont have work letter. thats what the website say.

Last year, here in Mississauga, when I went to extend my OHIP card , the BOWP paper wasn't enough.
And the employee there insisted of me bringing an Employment Letter, along side with the WP and my Passport.

I doubt the AOR is enough "document" for granting you the "OHIP" card. After all, the card is issued to Temporary Resident, because he is a Worker. Otherwise, he won't get the service.

Read it again. See what is marked in bold. This is not about "open work permit holders". This is about applicants for PR.

Sharing my experience.
I went to the Brampton Service Ontario to renew my OHIP.
I have a BOWP with Remarks 'APR Pending' but i was asked for employment letter.
The guy at the counter said employment letter is not required if 'APR Approved', but since 'APR Pending' i need employment letter.

Same thing happened with me at Mississauga Service Ontario last year.


Note: APR Pending is stated in the Remarks section of the Work Permit.

It's more tricky than that.

To be eligible for OHIP coverage you have to meet following condition:

you have submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada has confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence in Canada

The problem is with the part I put in bold.
With BOWP the situation is clear: you can only get BOWP if you've been found eligible for PR by CIC (see the quoted text below).

With just AOR it's slightly different, because AOR is not always a confirmation of eligibility - it depends on the program you're using to get your PR.

Determining if a Positive Eligibility Decision has been made

For the purposes of determining if a positive eligibility assessment has been made, the processor will review if the Eligibility Assessment value is set to “Passed” in GCMS. If this decision has not been entered yet, for the purposes of this Operational Bulletin (OB), a “positive eligibility decision” will also be considered made when it is confirmed in GCMS that:

• FSWP: the “Ministerial Instructions” status has been set to “Met” or a positive Final Determination of Eligibility letter/ e-mail has been sent.
• PNP: the “Eligibility EC-QC/PNP” status has been set to “Passed” or the Acknowledgment of Receipt letter/e-mail has been sent by the Centralized Intake Office (CIO).
• CEC: the “Eligibility CEC” decision has been set to “Passed” or the Acknowledgement of Receipt letter/e-mail has been sent from CIO.

As you can see for CEC PR applicants AOR is a confirmation of eligibility and is enough to get OHIP.

Hi, I recieved ITA, applying under CEC, currently still working on the documents needed, but my PGWP is set to expire in around 2 months.

After submitting the application do I get the AoR the same day as some has suggested, some mentioned months, but after getting AoR I can extend straight extend OHIP? How long will it be valid for?

Is it best to apply for bowp first ? but I don't want any gaps in my medical coverage and in that case I should apply to extend right after getting aor? I'm currently working full time, for over a year now, and have group insurance .
