Around 10 -15 days after your visit to service canada
But they will immediately issue you paper copy , which you can use until not get OHIP CARD

Good Luck

Today, I carried with employment letter at ServiceOntario. It has renewed our family OHIP card. It did not take even 15 mins.

Guys, make sure when you are going to renew OHIP card on BOWP

- Passport
- BOWP documents
- Address Proof (License)
- Employment Letter if possible. However, I heard from my friend that without employment letter is possible but may be get an issue. It is depends on worker.

For safer side, I have asked already my current employer to provide me letter. So I can renew my OHIP card.

But, I have started this thread so, other people just like me can understand situation before going to serviceOntario.

Not quite - it's not enough for your PR application to just be in process. They need a thing from CIC that says you have been found eligible. The "Request for RPRF and updates" email is an example of this; the AOR isn't.

Not true. The requirement is similar to the requirement for getting BOWP.

"you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence" - you meet this requirement once you get AOR
The specific advice I got from Service Ontario is that they don't consider the AOR to be a statement of eligibility.

And indeed it isn't - an AOR is simply an acknowledgement that your application package was received and meets the requirements for an application package.

This doesn't matter to many (most?) people here because they qualify for OHIP as workers anyway.

AOR also implies "approved in principle"..

Conversely, applicants who apply under in-Canada PR classes (Live-in Caregiver class, Spouses or Common-law Partners in Canada class, Protected Persons, etc.) become eligible for open WPs once their application has been “approved in principle”, or upon submission of their application. Furthermore, they do not require an LMO or job offer from an employer in support of the open WP.
..but is "approved in principle" the same thing as "first positive decision" that's required for OHIP eligibility? I for one have no idea!

I went to renew my Ohip last weekend and I was lucky to get it renewed with just my bowp. They did not ask for my employment letter. I seem to be running into a lot of luck lately as well with everything.

Just renewed our OHIP cards. No issues encountered and didn't request any employment letter. The officer even reminded us to update them once we are PR already.

I'll be updating our SIN on Friday.

Thanks,
Go here, Unit 2B, 1400 Weber Street East

I always do all my transactions with this location. No problems encountered. Book an appointment online.

We were done for about 45 mins for all 4 members of the family. This includes, other than renewal of the OHIP card, change of addresses for OHIP cards, driver's licenses and vehicle registration.

Then for SIN I went here, Market Square, Suite 200 25 Frederick Street. Again no issues for me and my wife.

Good luck!

According to FAQs (for Ontario):
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/ohip/ohipfaq_mn.aspx

Q: What immigration documents must I present to confirm my immigration status as an Applicant for Permanent Residence (previously called an Applicant for Landing) when applying for Ontario health insurance coverage?

A:
If you are applying for Ontario health insurance coverage as an Applicant for Permanent Residence, you are required to present written confirmation from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that you are eligible to apply for permanent residence in Canada, which may be one of the following :

CIC Confirmation Letter – letter on CIC letterhead addressed to the Applicant for Permanent Residence that confirms that the applicant is eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada;
CIC Immigration document such as a Work Permit, Visitor Record, Temporary Resident Permit or Study Permit with note in the “Remarks Section” that indicates that you have applied for permanent residence.

- So if you have 'APR Pending' in the remarks section thats should be enough, no employment letter required.

It also says this:

Open work permit holders (including those in CIC’s Post-Graduation Work Permit Program) may be eligible for Ontario health insurance coverage provided they are employed full-time for an employer in Ontario for a minimum of six months, have a valid work permit during this time, and they:
•maintain their primary place of residence in Ontario; and are
•physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period; and are
•physically present in Ontario for 153 of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province.

Further information on the changes concerning Temporary Foreign Workers can be found on a fact sheet entitled “Temporary Foreign Workers”.

They give you the paper with the number and expiry date at the moment, when you apply. Remember, they take a photo of you, so keep the smile up! :D
Regarding the card over the mail, I think within a month, you shall get it. Until then, the paper works as an replacement of the card, if needed.
