What about leaving Canada, since there is no immigration?
Just another point, CBSA has record about you exiting Canada - so far - only by road when travelling to the US and this is only from June 2013. If you traveled to the US prior that, there is no record for it.
There is a plan to start recording your Air exits as well (to any destination) and it is currently being tested/implemented (coming in few months or next year I guess), people will start seeing exit reports all along with Entry reports when they will order their CBSA travel history.
This is what is usually available at a 1st request, and what CIC usually has access to when processing your application. Now that said, if there is an investigation, for serious issues, such as criminality, terrorism, (not sure about citizenship applications but I would imagine yes), I do believe CBSA can dig further and get access to your exit trips from airline manifests when available and a such. But this takes time and usually happens for serious cases.
It is understood that CIC goes more into issuing RQs to applicants as it seems to take less time (may be cost effective as well) to them, applicant will then have to prove he was really in country and prove he fulfill the citizenship requirements.
Therefore making sure you get your passport stamped when you enter another country, is your best way to have a relatively smooth straightforward citizenship application processing.
