Just anecdotally I've been watching the 2020 OUTLAND Google Spreadsheet and since that announcement it appears to me that application processing really seemed to pick up quite a bit. There are many submissions from August that now seem to be moving forward.
Finally got through the 888 number, spoke to an agent and obtained a temp number (starting with an X). My understanding is that I still can't do anything with this number until they start working on my application (at which point I'd drop the X from my temp number). When that happens I can link my application to a GCKEY and make use of webform (which I need to do to follow-up on some small errors, such as typos, in my original application).

I have a question... Can you get a temporary file number through webform enquiries? Or can you only get it through phone?

For the invitation letter, my husband basically explained that it is for family reunification, when he last saw me (2 years ago) and justified why I needed to come visit. It is also important to include a clear quarantine explanation, I feel. He also included my personal details, (full name, DOB, address, phone number) and explained the purpose of visit, length of trip, where I will be staying (provide addresses in Canada) and how we will pay for things. He also included when I will leave Canada. In the same letter, he provided his personal information as well, including job title and stated that he is a Canadian citizen.
I wrote a letter for the purpose of visit that explained that I had a TRV before, it expired, and mentioned the exemptions for spouses. I then wrote why I needed to visit and also declared dual intent that I had a spousal sponsorship that was sent to NS. I explained my ties to my current country of residence IN DETAIL. I explained that I have a steady job, how much leave I have, when I plan to take it, and when I was expected to return. I also explained that I am responsible for my brother's education and allowance, and included all his passes, rental agreement and fees receipt. I explained when he was going to graduate which was not soon lol. I also explained the bank accounts and investments that I hold, plus a joint tenancy agreement with my godmother.
I feel like anyone applying for a TRV should definitely address every possible reason for refusal, hence I provided a very solid background of everything I could think of.Keep in mind the decision is also heavily based on the officer and which VO it gets sent to.
AFAIK, applications are usually refused based on :
1. Travel History
2. Financial ability
3. Lack of ties to home country
4. Will not leave Canada at the end of the stay
So make sure you emphasise these points. The more the better. Here's a checklist of documents that I've sent :
- Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257)
- Family Information Form (IMM5707)
- Travel History
- Table detailing travels and immigration for the past 10 years
- Previous letters for work pass approvals and student pass records
- Valid pass as proof of residency
- Birth certificate, identity card and driving license
- Scanned copy of US Visa
- Passport
- Old Passport with visas and stamps
- New Passport
- Invitation letter from XX, my husband
- Employment letter
- XX birth certificate & driver’s license
- XX bank balance
- Cancelled XX trip due to COVID-19
- Proof of means of financial support
- My employment contract with XX stating my salary and leave allowances
- My XX savings account bank statements for the last 4 months
- My payslips for the last 10 months (2020)
- My tax assessment for 2020
- Fixed deposit in XXXX worth roughly CAD XX,XXX that can be liquidated if required
- Investments in a trust fund XXXX worth roughly CADXX,XXX that can be withdrawn anytime if required
- Digital photo
- Purpose of travel
- This letter explaining the purpose of travel Hotel booking for 2 weeks in Edmonton for quarantine period
- Quarantine plan with address and plans for food delivery
- Proof of Relationship
- Marriage Certificate
- Schedule 1 – Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside Canada (IMM 5257)
- Proof of ties to current country of residence
- Employment
- Letter from my employer stating that they are aware of my trip and leave
- Screenshot of my leave balance
- Screenshot of XX website that shows that I am a XX
- Copy of XX schedule
- Financial Obligations to Family
- Letter of Financial Support from my brother, XX
- XX pass, university course fees receipt, tenancy agreement and a screenshot showing the debit cards under my XX account

Wondering - if they reject TRV awhile you have sponsorship taking place - would that not impact the application negatively? Also where did your TRV get forwarded to which office I mean? How long did the TRV process take you?
No it will not affect your PR app. A TRV app is processed at your LVO. I just saw a poster who got their TRV after 2 months.

I don't believe so. We applied under the COVID-19 category - it seems to be aimed at family reunification. I had another TRV prior to this one too. My TRV was processed in Singapore, and it took 2 weeks.
Yours was approved also? What's the maximum they will extend the TRV for? What happens after the spouse comes to Canada and then we get a Medical request? Do they have to go back to do the rest of the process from their Home country?
You can do the medical in Canada or anywhere else. No they don't have to go back.
@kanislupos what did you select for purpose in the questionnaire that comes up first while applying for TRV online? I know that in one of the forms we needed to select 'other' and then input 'covid-19'. But I'm asking about the questionnaire in the beginning that creates a checklist based on our answers, should I select 'visit family/friends' option or 'other'? Appreciate your help!
