Next century! Lol I hope not.

I landed today. The agent said it'll take about 8 weeks although it said 4 weeks on the handout he gave me.

I had a pleasant landing experience at Maine-New Brunswick border today.

I presented my passport and CoPR. The officer asked me to check my CoPR for errors. It took about 15 mins for the officer to enter my information in the computer. Then he asked me to answer 2 questions on CoPR (past crimes and dependents) and sign the CoPR. Then he showed me the stamp he had stamped on my US passport (indicating I'm Canadian PR). Then he gave me a handout with instructions for applying SIN and medicare, becoming a citizen, etc. Then he congratulated and shook my hand and sent me on my way.

I learned two things from that officer. Should I leave the country before receiving PR card, I can use that stamp in my passport as proof that I'm a PR. The other thing is I resided in Canada as a visitor for a year before I land. The officer said it is considered as 6 months of residency. So now I only need 2 and a half years of residency in order to become eligible to apply for citizenship. I learn something new everyday about immigration!

I'm very thankful I've found this forum. This thread and a few other threads have given me so much information, help and support. I'm not sure if I would have come out totally sane from this whole PR process if I didn't have an access to all the information on here. Thank you!

More or less, although it would still be wise to travel with your COPR until you receive your card. Canadian visa officials will not deny re-entry to a permanent resident, but for those from visa-requiring countries there may be problems booking commercial travel, since ordinarily airlines require a PR card or a valid visa to issue a ticket. (They're on the hook for anyone who is turned away at the border.)

Alas, this is out-of-date information. Citizenship eligibility rules changed earlier this year, so that four years' residency (out of the previous six) on permanent status is now required, with no partial credit for temporary status.

If you do not travel outside of Canada, you will be eligible to apply for citizenship in July, 2019.

These requirements may or may not remain the same pending the outcome of October's elections. These changes were wrapped up in a relatively controversial citizenship bill last year, and if one of the opposition parties forms government this fall they may seek to revise these rules.

Got Decision made today for my 3yr US Citizen daughter :) :) :) :)
October 23th '14 application
July 20th '15 DM
Thanks everyone for good words all these times !!!

Question: What am I expecting in mail now and how much time it takes? I just want a SIN# ASAP for daughter to apply RESP account because Alberta govt has some Education fund giveaway for RESP for kids and application deadline is July 31st. Need SIN# before that. Am I out of luck there?

Got PR approval through phone call from MP yesterday AM. Logged on to ecas this AM and it's official
Finally the light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping to get COPR with no errors by the end of next week or sooner. All who are left to get DM i hope it comes to you soon. We've all waited long enough.

Unfortunately "DM" isn't necessarily the end of the waiting. Tomorrow it'll be five weeks for us since DM and still no sign of when we can expect confirmation of permanence residence to arrive. Passport was requested at the same time as "Decision Made" and the passport request just said "we will make our best efforts to have your passport returned to you with your visa within 60 days." 60 working days would be just a week less than 3 full months. Another three months after DM would suggest not getting too excited about DM. I frankly can't understand the point of "Decision Made" if that doesn't mean the end of "processing", but the visa application centre through which we were asked to submit the passport just continues to indicate "is being processed at the Canada Visa Office" in their tracking.

One's finally "done" - as in able to decide when one's going to land - when one has the CoPR in hand and not before.

Figured I'd ask here since I've found a lot of useful info on here!

My husband and I just heard from the lawyer we hired about our application. Apparently they were informed that there were a few things that needed to be sent in (more photos from our civil ceremony, an update on what our plans are for a ceremony once I move, and the processing fee). Just wondering if anyone knows how long it might take past here. This is the first thing we've heard since submitting our application (aside from the sponsorship approval) so we're getting pretty anxious.

We're really hoping we'll hear something soon since they've taken the money for the fee. But I figured I'd ask here to maybe get an idea.

What's weird is my husband was sent two COPR's (one for a dependent? even though he has none, I guess it's just standard issue) and a sticker for his passport incase he was from a visa-requiring country, but as I understand it, visa-req countries get a PPR for that and have to send it in. What is the purpose of this sticker then? Strange. If they could do it like that it would take a lot less time.

And a huge congrats to all you DM/COPR's!

Odd, his extra COPR said something about being for someone accompanying him, but what you say makes way more sense. I wasn't hovering around spying to see what was going on, I was redditing on my phone, heh.

Lol, no, it's just an instructional leaflet, similar information as on the website for landing etc. If you want I could scan it for you.
