I hope your application will go through this time. I've just remembered a detail in my application that is related to what you mentioned. In my application I sent a photocopy of the passports of my family. My wife's and my passports are still current and covers 4 years as required. Unfortunately my son's passport who is 7 years now covers 3.5 years ( this passport covers all the time since we first landed in Canada). He never had a passport before ( he was added to my wife's passport for travel ) and unfortunately I missed mentioning that in my cover letter. Does anyone come across a similar situation? Does anyone think that could be a reason for returning back our application? Please advise.
Have you sent the scanned copy of your wife's passport page where your son's name was added?
If yes, then they might not return it unless CIC overlooks it.
Overlooking issue happened to one of this forum's member, I can't recall that persons name. His application was returned because CIC failed to notice passport renewal pages and they thought that that person has not provided whole 4 years of information.

I wish you good luck and hope for the best.

Thanks TheCoolGuySam for your reply. Actually, he was added to her previous passport. Unfortunately , I didn’t attach a copy of her old passport. I would be very surprised if they return it. It is just few months and he was 2 years old at that time.
My understanding ( correct me if I’m wrong) the reason for asking for four years is that they count physical presence for 3 years over the span of four years and that would need the passport to cover that period. If all the time that we claim for his physical presence is covered by the current passport, I just think it is logical to accept it. That’s my hope as well. I haven’t received it back for more that 2 months , so I hope it is a sign that it is complete.

As the application has not been returned, its a good sign that application might not be returned.
They need to see complete 4 years of coverage in the passports. Missing few months may cause the issue.

Also, does your wife's current passport has 4 years of coverage or not?

As per the following link 1095 days of physical presence is not required for children under 18:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become-eligibility.asp

Time you have lived in Canada
You must have resided in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before you apply. This does not apply to children under 18.

Thanks TheCoolGuySam. This is a kind of relief. Actually my wife's passport as well as mine covers more than 4 years. It is just my son's passport that we had to issue for him before we landed as requested by London office ( UK ) to allow them to stamp a Landing visa for him. In regards to the physical presence, we have no problem as we spent more than required. I really hope that this won't be an issue especially for a minor.

I also sent my application on October 10th and received the email of confirmation (UCI and Application No) on Jan 8th, 2015. I have a couple of questions and I'd appreciate if you could help me with them.

1) How can I check the status of my application based on these numbers?! I tried a few options in the online system, but didn't work.

2) I'm temporarily outside Canada now for an internship, but I still have my Canadian address. Do you think I should change my address, phone number and occupation in my application? I don't want to make things complicated for CIC officers, and that's why I am not sure about changing these info.

Thanks. :)

Welcome to the forum!

Once you receive your AOR it takes few days for ECAS to get activated. Please be patient. You can use client ID#, PR card number etc.

Regarding address, if you have changed the address in canada then call cic call centre and ask them to update it. If its same address mentioned in the application then there is no need to update the address. Also, if you are away from canada for more than 2 weeks then you have to notify CIC.

Please check the following links:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=911&t=5

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become-after.asp

I hope these links will help you better understand the rules and regulations. Make sure you read them carefully and thoroughly.

So it means that your son's passport was issued 3.5 years ago when you guys landed in canada 3.5 years ago. Correct?

Also when did your wife'ss old passport expire which had your son's name mentioned? Please just provide month and year.
Also please tell me when was your wife's current passport was issued (month and year).

I am just trying to understand the gap between the dates.

That’s right TheCoolGuySam. My son’s passport was issued 3.5 years ago few months before our landing in June 2011. My wife’s passport as mine were issued in 2010. So these passport covers 4 years until the application date. It is just my son’s few month short of the 4 years. I guess I should have mentioned in the cover letter the he didn’t have a passport earlier and it would be better if I scanned my wife’s old passport and his page.
No matter how many times you check the application and documents, there will be something missing. It is just our nature. Let’s hope it won’t be an issue and I will get my AOR soon.

If you/your wife/ your son have passport since the day he landed and have landing stamp on the passport.. that's all it matter. I think he was born when your PR application was in process... you don't have to worry.

I am 99% sure everything will be alright n nothing to worry. But CIC can always finds some reason to ask explanation. If I were in your position I would not have worried :-(

:) :)Hello everyone !!! Today is great day because just got an email from CIC with AOR !! Yyeeeyyy!! Applied oct 17 and received in Sydney on the 2oth. It's almost 3 months before they issue it just now.. I'm relieved thanks God. I have some questions: does it mean that when you received an AOR from email they won't send the booklet anymore and they give a certain link to download it? Because it says in the letter :
If you are receiving this letter by email the study guide is available on the CIC website.
If you are receiving the letter in regular mail the study guide is enclosed .

So does it mean that I will not receive it by post now because I've got an email? I'm asking this because other received it thru email as well as by regular post with the book enclose. Thanks

When you receive the email AOR then you need to use the online link for study guide. They won't mail the booklet.
