I applied for both surrender certificate and OCI at the same time. BLS stated that they you could apply for both at the same time. it take 2-3 weeks to process the surrender certificate and approximately 6-8 weeks for the OCI.

The surrender certificate is processed at the local consulate and OCI is processed in New delhi. your OCI application goes all the way to delhi from the consulate and comes back.

Hello forum members,
I am planning to me renounce my Indian citizenship and apply for OCI @Brampton ON. I talked to two different people, and they gave me different information and got me confused. If any of you have applied for OCI @Brampton, could you please help me with the following questions:
1)Do they accept OCI fee in cash?
2)Should we handover the Canadian citizenship certificate in original?
3)They are asking for many other certificates to be submitted in original, is it a correct informaiton?
4)Is it possible to collect OCI from BLS in person?

Can anyone tell me how to check status ? on BLSI site or passport.gov.in ? also How to track status of returned doc (They took my Indian passport and told me I will get it back by Fedex in three weeks )

sidestep4u - did you call up BLS ? If the OCI is in vancouver, then there is no reason for you not to have got it by now.

Hi Friends,

Need your help and advise as my OCI application was rejected today.

I submitted my OCI application saying I was married (technically I am right now ) my divorce is in process which is going to get long and nasty.... So the person at the submission office said since I applied for OCI based on my wife and they need all my wife's original and copies of canada/indian passports/citzship certificate/landing document and all other docs which I cannot get right now.

I know I can apply for 5 yr Tourist Visa and go to India. But is there no way to apply for OCI even though I was born as Indian Citizen without my wife's documents. Can't I apply for OCI based on my parents origins since they are also born in India. If I can do that then do I say " UNMARRIED" in the OCI application or still say "MARRIED" ? I cant say DIVORCED since I dont have the Divorce Certificate yet.. this will take atleast 1 or more yrs.

Please help me friends..... Waiting for your reply.

Thanks.

Hi,

In absence of your Sponsor's documents, you can apply for Canadian Refugee Board's letter stating that you have never applied for refugee status in Canada. And if you have applied for refugee status in Canada then forget about OCI. Download and submit the form from link below.

I hope it helps.

Hi all, I am in a fix and need some help. Me and my husband both are Indian citizens. Our daughter is a Canadian citizen. Me and my daughter are traveling to India early next month. She has a visitor visa valid for 6 months. I want to apply for her oci card as her return date is after the visa expires. So my questions
1. Should I apply from here, Toronto and have my husband send over the oci card whenever he receives it here? Problem - how long will they keep my Indian passport, her Canadian passport and my PR card as I would need this for my travel nect month
2. I can apply for her oci card from India - mumbai. Problem- would they need my husband's documents in original for submission. As he is not travelling with us.
Thanks
