Did you go for legal name change in Canada or name change due to marriage?

legal name change in Canada for my daughter 9 years old.

So, if you are applying for OCI for your daughter who has got her legal name change done, in that case you may need to attach the copy of legal name change certificate that was issued in Canada (that's what I can guess) and also contact BLS at the following link to ask for the proper procedure:

have a question.. not necessarily related to OCI.. Just wondering, if I get Canadian citizenship, can I keep indian passport for another 6 months without using that for travelling?(If we travel they put penalty) Cos I have a plan to travel soon and I don't want to spent money on surrendering now ($240) and also the waiting time for surrender.

Also I do have a plan for name change after getting citizenship. So I was thinking to make name change after I get citizenship, then surrender and then apply for OCI with new name.. Any suggestions guys..?

I'm not sure about the name change but you can keep your Indian passport for 6 months. There is time limit as far as you don't use it as a travel document no penalty as well.

thank you coolguysam. I was hoping it would as simple as that. Last time I visited the BLS office, they were saying something about going to lawyer or something. They didn't provide me step-by-step process though.

I just wanted to check if they anyone had gone through this and know their experience through this process.

thanks

If BLS does not accept the name change certificate of your daughter then you might need to get an affidavit from a lawyer stating about her name change. Please confirm with BLS centre for more details.

If I get Canadian citizenship, can I apply for indian visa without showing the surrendering certificate? Do I have to apply that along with entry visa, since they know at that point, that I am no longer Indian?

Usually once you go to the lawyers office they usually have the standard templates already.
