Hi,

I am quite confused as to how to go about my application. My situation is a bit rare, if I might say so myself.

I have an Iranian passport, with OCI linked to this passport. I grew up in India (Indian father) and moved to Canada with PR. And I recently got my Canadian passport as well.

  1. Do I have to update my nationality on my OCI card (from Iranian + OCI holder to Canadian + OCI holder) ? Since neither Iran nor India recognizes dual citizenship, do I even have to go about this whole process?

  2. If not, then should I just update my new address, contact information, etc. online and leave it at that?

  3. If yes, then I will have to fill the OCI reissuance form, which asks me to renunciate my non-existent Indian passport - now what do I do about this?

Please advise - I am neck deep in more pdf forms and webpages that I can count!

Thanking you in advance!

You need to use this as your nationality changed.

Hey Shima,
Yeah, once you get a new nationality, you’ll need to update your OCI. Since you didn’t have an Indian passport, just explain that in the form or attach a self-declaration — others have done the same.
