For OCI Status enquiry: Please visit (https://ociservices.gov.in/statusEnqury). You would need the passport number and OCI file reference number (CANV…………..) to check the status of an application.

Due to unprecedented surge in number of OCI applications, processing time has substantially increased to 9-10 weeks from the date of registration at the Consulate. It may vary depending on the volume of applications received. You should plan your travel only after taking OCI. If you have already planned your travel and OCI is still pending, for whatsoever reasons, you may apply for regular paper visa https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html through BLS or eVisa https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

Surrendering Indian Voter ID and Ration Card: It is mandatory to surrender the last held Indian passport, Indian Voter ID Card and Ration Card to the concerned Indian authorities on acquiring any foreign nationality by an Indian citizen.

Please note, we will be unable to assist on the process of surrendering Indian Voter ID and Ration Card. You may check with the concerned authorities of Government of India regarding the process involved for surrendering your Indian Voter ID https://voters.eci.gov.in and Ration Card (Food and Civil supplies Department of your region) and comply, prior to submission of OCI application.

Hi sunnyb7, thanks for your message. Are you aware of any web link to track the status? And does BLS accept OCI applications only when this confirmation is received? Or just form 7 acknowledgment is also acceptable? Do you know? What happened in your case?

The status can be checked in the same account where you raise the request by submitting the form7. I waited for the request to be completed, only when my EPIC disappeared from the electoral role I submitted my request.

Unless the request is completed your EPIC is visible on the portal and can be very easily found by searching online.

Thanks any way to trace back the EPIC# cancellation, did you actually Got it cancelled or it was cancelled on its own.

It was cancelled/deleted on its own.

Hello,
Can someone confirm if BLS is taking OCI application just on the basis of the acknowledgement of Form 7 or does it need the EPIC to be removed by ECI to submit OCI application.

Secondly, did anyone else's declaration on Form 7 said this:
'I hereby declare that to the best of my knowledge and belief that I am a citizen of India and I am aware that making a statement or declaration which is false and which I know or believe to be false.....'
I am confused as to why my declaration says citizen of India when I have selected 'Not Indian Citizen' as the reason for Form 7.

Can anyone please help clarify?

I have the EPIC number for voter id surrender. I clicked on form 7 and followed steps to create an account with an Indian phone number, email id and name. I went to "edit profile" to enter an EPIC number in my profile...my number starts with ROL. It'S not accepting it saying "invalid match., kindly enter only EPIC number". Does this mean I should remove "ROL". I am scared coz I dont want to link it to something wrong.

Did you submit form 7 through resident or non-resident elector login? I submitted mine with resident by linking it to my EPIC but I am not seeing some answers saying you have to do it through non-resident. But I never applied or voted as a non-resident. Any clarification on this would be helpful

Called BLS Brampton today. They mentioned that they need confirmation from ECI that record got deleted. They can’t just accept the acknowledgment of Form 7. They asked me to wait for one week as generally the record gets deleted in that much time and confirmation is sent by ECI post that. When I asked on whether they know if ECI sends a mail or how they confirm back to applicants on record deletion to that they said they don’t know. I hope ECI sends a note which I can use to take it to BLS. Anyone else knows any confirmation email sent by ECI? Not sure if any one mentioned here on the same hence asking..!!

I got informed from BLS that you can send application and mention in the declaration that you have submitted request already to ECI with Form 7. I sent forms today by just applying for Deleting EPIC#.

It's independent so you need not do anything. Just double check your wife really doesn't have a ration card or voter id. It's mostly done by parents and they(spouse) are unaware of its existence.

what documents should she be providing to prove that her name was never in the voters list or ration card?

It's a tricky question. Not much info available on the forum. The problem is without proof everyone will start saying they don't have any. Better call and check with BLS if they ok with only the declaration.

for my spouse I could not find her voter ID so the best way is to check voter list for your area and get councillor to write up confirming no vote exists.

regarding Ration card please refer this gazette notification and there should be a notification issued by respective state government food and distribution department. all old ration cards are no longer valid proof of ID or Residence. also the issuance of ration cards to general public have been stopped. In short no ration cards exists for us.

for my spouse I could not find her voter ID so the best way is to check voter list for your area and get councillor to write up confirming no vote exists, then create new voter ID and then file form 7 for cancellation.

Wondering why would you create a new voter id after renouncing Indian citizenship? is that even legal?
if your spouse name does not appear in the voter ID list during Consulate verification, that means her name has been already removed or was never enrolled.

you are right, I have now edited my post. This was last option if BLS is not satisfied with councillor letter saying no vote exists.
