Though there is a 3 month grace period as documented in many places, has any one found out whether exit permit application from Canadian citizens wont run into trouble because of the visa suspension. Technically the exit permit is required because of the citizenship surrender that happens while in India and not having a visa to support the stay at that point. Tread with caution. The reason why the consulate is discouraging could be because of the "special treatment" we Canadians are receiving since Sept 21.

That’s a great point and something to look into. But my understanding is that exit permit is different from a visa and you could apply for either/or. Based on Pratik’s msg earlier in the thread, the response from the FRRO was based on the Canadian context.

There is not much change from last time as we have a gap of 2 weeks for which we don't have any application to track.

What significance does date of acknowledgement have?

Its the date when your application gets into the system as one "under process".
Processing in Delhi (security clearance) starts only after that. The consulate has to do some pre-processing and approve that documents are in order and verified before Ack. So, there is some variability from consulate to consulate in how fast Ack comes.

Any idea on Vancouver timelines? I received Ack within a week (application submitted 27th, ack Oct 04) but now waiting for processing.. My tickets are booked for Oct 27th.. You think it will come by than? What is current trend? I lost hope in getting Evisa (applied on 19th Sep and status shows processed but no further details or PDF)

Based on my experience you will get OCI between November 6 - 9. So my suggestion would be to either schedule or find an alternative.

Hello everybody, hope you all had a great long weekend. Does anyone know why BLS Brampton has not opened walk in appointment from November onwards. All BLS centers except Brampton has slots for walk in application from November. Tried calling BLS several times and emailed as well, no luck.

Even BLS Toronto has not opened slots for November. May be for GTA it is still pending.
