Hey all,

I am in the process of surrendering my Indian passport. I just wanted to check what to do about my aadhar card ? Do I have to surrender that too ? Or can I keep it as an OCI ?

You do not have to surrender Aadhar card. Only passport.

I undertook a single journey within three months of acquiring Canadian citizenship while using my Indian passport. I intend to surrender the Indian passport, which bears the relevant stamp. It's my assumption that a penalty might still be imposed, as the three-month rule has not been explicitly communicated. Interestingly, there remains a misconception among some individuals that obtaining Canadian citizenship instantaneously invalidates the Indian passport, which is not accurate. I am curious to observe how this situation unfolds
I may be wrong and happy to be corrected but from what I have read, there is a grace period of 3 months for you to travel on indian passport after acquiring Canadian citizenship. However if you travel after 3 months you may be penalized.

Hi Buddy,

Was yours a postal application? If yes, did you pay again for the OCI delivery as your return label had been used to deliver your surrender certi and passport?

@HMO

HI

It was walkin. I paid them (for delivery of OCI and original surrender certificate both) at the counter when I submitted it through Walkin application.

I submitted my OCI application on Aug 4th. ( walk in ) Vancouver jurisdiction

My status still show Uderprocess on BLS website

And OCI website it says NO SUCH Record

how long it will take to change the status ?

Did you had to submit original surrender certificate?
which zone are you in?

looks like Vancouver is only asking Self attested copy of surrender certificate, can you confirm yours

Yes for Vancouver and Surrey you need to send copy of self attested surrender certificate.

My situation is, I traveled after the 3 month grace period and know that there is a penalty. What I cannot understand is, how this penalty is paid because nowhere in the renunciation application they ask for passport usage beyond 3 months, and request payment of penalty.

Anyone went through the process?
