Illogical. It is mainly impacting those with Indian origin.

It is still suspended for Canada and UK. I wonder what the problem is now because special travel restrictions for those arriving from India have been removed for a few days now. Previously Canada and UK nationals along with US and Japan nationals were allowed to stay in India for 180 days per visit but the rule just says USA and Japan now.

Update:

OCI application date: Jan 26. Toronto - walkin
Received originals back: Feb 18
OCI issued on ociservices website: around March 10th
Shipped by BLS: 14th March
Received in BC: 16th March

Extra details:
- We moved after applying for OCI to BC and our Toronto address is closed for the entire month of March - so no way to receive when OCI comes at home.
- Tried calling BLS to get the address changed, but given how incompetent they are, I was not surprised at all when they couldn't even locate the file even though we gave the correct number and could track ok their website just fine.
- Dropped the idea of contacting them altogether and tried contacting Purolator if they'd reroute. They accepted the request and said it'd cost $40 to reroute and that someone would call to take payment details. Went through the same process twice but no one called to get payment details.
- Surprisingly, OCI shows up at the BC address today morning. Within 48 hours of being shipped from Brampton. Pretty good work by Purolator. Hopefully, the greedy buggers at BLS got charged the $40 fee because we didn't get charged anything. :D

Did Purolator ask for the new address proof before handing over documents?

It is because of Mr. Trudeau, this government is always against the present Indian government. Well, then they retaliate with these types of things. LOL.

Just saying.

You will go down in history as the only or one of the few people who were able to get anything from B(L)S for free :cool:

Mine today says " Surrender certificate has been granted and ready for issue"
I applied On March 1 in person.
@indigonation5
@richieP @Hot2Cold
Any update on Surrender certificate?

Hi @dineshrehab - YES! Have the same update!!

"Surrender certificate has been granted and is available for issuance"

And BLS is still showing:

"Processing at consulate general"

Now what is next for us?
I think the next status would be "Printed" and then it will be sent to the BLS Toronto office? (after which i am hoping they will contact for pickup)

Yes, we can thank Trudeau and Alghabra for this.

Best to apply for OCI.

To be honest, I wouldn't put it past them to double the courier charges for applicants moving forward to avoid cases like this.

But I am definitely going to enjoy this.

I too have the same status - seems Consulate does this in batches and today (Wed.) they updated everybody's status.

@indigonation5 ,Passport seva status would change to "Surrender certificate printed" and BLS website status would change to "Ready to pick-up" and then one can go and collect from BLS office or BLS will send via purolator, if opted for mail service.

If they wanted to retaliate against Trudeau, why punish desis? Lol...Canada issues travel ban - desis screwed. India issues retaliation - again desis only screwed! Lol. No Canadian gora is losing sleep over lack of evisa to India lol.

I am having "Surrender certificate has been granted and is available for issuance" status for over a week now and it's no change since then. I am wondering how long does it take for our Gov. to print one page certificate. I am guessing as per other people are suggesting they are doing in batches and no option other then waiting :(

LOL, you are now a Canadian Citizen not an Indian any more. That's why. They had to screw someone, we are the easy targets. LOL. :-)
